So, I have a long plane trip coming up and I want to load up my PSP with some hot hot emulator sex.
HOWEVER
I am so fucking sick of the same eight games for the goddamned Nintendo Entertainment System. Some all time classics, yes, but I want to try something NEW.
So I am asking Evilbore to recommend some old-school games that:
1) rock
2) are still fun today, even without the tint of nostalgia
3) aren't for the NES (Amiga, C64, Apple II, SMS, Wonderswan, all are welcome)
4) are easily playable on a PSP (this means no keyboard-heavy soft)
I expect dcharlie in this thread within 10 minutes

How about the original Phantasy Star?
Bonanza Brothers (SMS)
What about TG-16?
-
Jackal was my favorite NES game

Actually, to be honest, I'm pretty versed at this poing in the SNES, Genny, TG-16, and SMS libraries. I'm mostly looking for obscurer Euro soft recommendations.
-
Okay. I can't really suggest much to ya then. Sorry!

games that are fun for a few hours play (i.e. not 50-hour RPGs) are also welcome~

I don't know shit about Euro stuff, but I'll second MAF's Jackal recommendation, it's even more fun with 2 players. Some other slightly more NES picks beyond the usual suspects:
WRECKING CREW :bow :bow :bow
Kickle Cubicle
Metal Storm
Power Blade
Rescue Rangers
Crystalis
Kick Master
The Lolo series
Bucky O'Hare
Shadow of the Ninja
Shatterhand
Maniac Mansion
Ninja Gaiden 2
SMS outside of Phantasy Star, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, a decent port of Ultima IV, and (maybe) Golvellius, there's not much to recommend :P
And for

I wish I could remember the names of any of the non RPGS I played on C64 back as a child. The only games I remember by name from that era are Bard's Tale, Ultima and Ghostbusters.
