i already hate juno and i haven't even seen it yet; thanks, evilbore

That review quote makes me hate it right away. They coulda just said 'they talk fast like in that Gilmore Girls show!'

Jesus this isn't enchanted or anything as my #1. It's the top pick for a lot of people.
-
a lot of people who thought gilmore girls was a 'smart' show cause they talked fast
-
they dont talk fast in Juno. The reason I fell in love with it is the evolution of Jason Bateman's character and his relationship with Juno. The dialouge's hipster-ness went a tad over-board.

it is but some of the best elements (and worst elements) come from the hipster dialouge. I'd take the stupid stuff like "HONEST TO BLOG?" to keep in having a new mother scream out "Thundercats Ho!" during birth

Am I the only one on the planet who doesn't keep up with new movies?
I can't respond to this thread because of it. I mostly watch old movies and random movies the tv broadcasts.

worth mentioning:
The Brave One
In the Valley of Elah
Bug
Grindhouse (Death Proof/Planet terror)
Stardust
still there are some movies i didn't had the chance to watch them.. such as Beowulf, Sweeney Todd, 3:10 to yuma, other movies i don't remember atm.
-
I was interested in seeing Hoax but never got around to it. I need to check it out.
-
Only ones that really stuck out for me:
No Country for Old Men
The Bourne Ultimatum
Gone Baby Gone
Hot Fuzz
Superbad (I haven't even seen it, but I'm about 99.9% I'll absolutely love it)
Knocked Up
-
I've found myself liking Superbad less and less each time I see it.
-
I've found myself liking Superbad less and less each time I see it.
I have the same thing, just with your posts.
-
Way too early, I've got a ton of movies that I will be seeing before January 1st.
-
I really haven't seen too much this year (or at least much worth remembering) but I've watched Zodiac maybe a half dozen times now and it's probably the best thing David Fincher has ever done, imo. Love that movie.
-
I don't see a lot of movies, sadly. From what I've seen this year, I guess I'd put Diehard 4 and 300. If haven't seen the following, but I would probably like them (at least better than some of the other stuff out this year):
-Spiderman 3
-Pirates 3
-Bourne Ultimatum
-Zodiac
-Stardust
-Hot Fuzz
-Deathproof
Yes, I have shitty movie taste. :-\
-
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN MOTHER FUCKERS
Followed by:
Across the Universe
Order of the Phoenix (suck it Evilbore, suck it long, suck it hard, this movie's good)
Death Proof
Hot Fuzz
The Mist
Bourne Ultimatum
Still need to see:
Gone Baby Gone
Juno
Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Atonement
Zodiac
Stardust
American Gangster
Eastern Promises
-
I am not sure I've even seen 10 new films but
Lars and The Real Girl
Bourne Ultimatum
American Gangster
Rattatouille
Stardust
Hot Fuzz
Superbad
3:10 to Yuma
Paprika
and I guess Knocked Up, even though I don't think I'd watch it again
-
juno = garden state 2
i hear it's more like little miss sunshine 2.
i think it will be a good movie on its own, but the hype will kill it.
i'm seeing it this weekend with my girlfriend, so i can provide a bit better review
here's a list of films i enjoyed. not best, not worst because i'm horrible at that
Zodiac
The Lookout
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Knocked Up
Ocean's Thirteen
Superbad
Death at a Funeral
3:10 to Yuma
Shoot 'Em Up
Michael Clayton
Gone Baby Gone
The Ten
American Gangster
No Country For Old Men
The Mist
there are many films missing from this list but that's because i missed many films in theaters

Ooo Death at a Funeral. You really liked it? I nearly saw it. Frank Oz has done some very good comedies. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Bowfinger and the like so I was always curious to check it out.
-
i really really did. my friend and i were in hysterics. it's playing at the Cinema Drafthouse in Arlington, VA this week we're going to go see it again, this time w/ my girlfriend who hadn't seen it originally

I can't respond to this thread because of it. I mostly watch old movies and random movies the tv broadcasts.
Nope.
I rarely watch movies in general. I love the medium, but I'm more of a theatre goer than dvd watcher. If I miss the movie in the theater I probably won't watch it. I catch about 4 to 5 movies a year.
-
01. The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
02. Zodiac
03. Death Proof
04. Stardust
05. Ratatouille
06. Eastern Promises
07. 3:10 To Yuma
08. No Country For Old Men
09. Hot Fuzz
10. Atonement
Overall, not a great year for me (although there are still 3-4 key movies I still need to see). Especially after 2006, one of my favorite years for movies in a long time, in which choosing only 10 was incredibly hard.

I love that you picked Stardust. It is a fantastic film and really refreshing for the fantasy genre after the endless LOTR/Harry Potter rip-offs.

I'm more of a tv-watcher. They broadcast so many awesome movies here, I've got way too much choice. On an average weekendnight, there are at least 4 movies I'm interested in , too bad they always end up being broadcasted at approximately the same time :\
-
Watching movies on tv is unbearable for me because 80% of the time they are fullscreen which makes it impossible to enjoy.
-
glad I'm not a ratio-whore like you 8)

How is that being a ratio whore? Having 30% or more of the screen cut off ruins the movie, plain and simple.

no one wants to look at ron weasley
-
I seriously doubt I watch movies which are shot in such a wide frame. Mainly watch old movies and down-to-earth type of arthouse films. I don't give a fuck about the cinematic experience.
also lol at Eric P's double ownage.
-
I don't really think of the aspect ratio when watching on TV, the cutting and censoring gets to me.
-
Prior to the end of 2007, I'll be seeing Atonement (tonight), The Savages, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Sweeney Todd, and I'm Not There. Still too much for me before I can make a list.
-
Ill stand up with Cheebs on this one - OAR or bust.
-
I watch movies on TV because I'm not a snob like Solo!
-

iirc, in heat you can't even see deniro and pacino in the same frame--in that fucking jizztastic scene--because of the 4:3 ratio. in general i don't really care, though.
-
I dont get why HBO, Showtime...etc dont just start doing widescreen. I mean everyone is used to it on dvd by now. It's silly.
-
i saw a bunch of movies this year and as far as i can remember these were it:
- sunshine
- knocked up
- ocean's thirteen
- zodiac
- the prestige
- hot fuzz (well... most of it, i guess)
i liked them all, but kocked up was meh.
-
I can't even remember what the last movie I saw in the theater was.
The Da Vinci Code or something?
-
Pan's Labyrinth
-
I'm watching The Great Debaters and Gone Baby Gone tonight, I may try to see The Savages and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly tomorrow, and in the next week or so I'm going to try to see Charlie Wilson's War, Into the Wild, Across the Universe, La Vie en Rose, Talk to Me, Kite Runner, A Mighty Heart, The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Black Book, and There Will Be Blood. Then I think I'll know what my Top 10 are.
-
OMG, Gone Baby Gone was amazing. :drudge
-
Yes, it most definitely was.
-
1. Bourne Ultimatum
2. Zodiac
3. Hot Fuzz
4. 300
As you can probably tell, I haven't seen many movies this year. I saw most of my favorite 2006 films this year. Looks like I won't be able to see There Will Be Blood until it comes out on DVD :-\
I still need to see No Country for Old Men; looks amazing
-
And Gone Baby Gone! >:(
-
That's definitely the only good looking film Cheebs has hyped this year
-
I stopped going to the movies after Spider Man 3. :maf
that means you missed transformers, so good call!
-

It's not a 2007 film, but since I saw it in 2007, I'll put Idiocracy in there. What, WHO'S GONNA STOP ME? :maf
-
Gone Baby Gone was fucking awesome. Who'd ever thought Affleck would be such a great director?
-

Or that his brother would be such a good actor? When I saw "Directed by Ben Affleck, starring Casey Affleck" I wasn't really enthusiastic about spending an afternoon with the Affleck boys. But Casey was able to deliver a solid performance and Ben was working like an old pro behind the camera. In a year that was rife with great crime thrillers (Michael Clayton, Zodiac, Eastern Promises, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Breach), Gone Baby Gone can easily hang with the best of them.

Okay, I watched The Savages and The Diving Bell and the Butterfly today. The Savages was a good movie, but overall maybe just a little too "real" for me. There's no good guys or bad guys, just a couple of regular people facing a fairly common problem and just trying to do the best they can. Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney were both great in their roles, but they were basically both just playing ordinary people. It's billed as a tragicomedy, but the comedy wasn't really that funny and the tragedy was really that tragic, it was all just life. And like real life, there were a lot of loose ends and unresolved subplots and characters at the end. It's a good movie if you're looking for a down-to-earth movie about family, but I just wasn't feeling it.
I started out hating The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. The first thirty minutes or so are shot from the perspective of a man totally paralyzed. To represent this, the director decided it should be shot with a lot of rapidly jerking camera movements, blurriness, and moments of darkness when he closed his eyes for a second. It's an interesting idea, but it was also on the verge of making my psychically ill. Once we got past that part though, I found myself slowly beginning to be sucked into this movie. The thought of being trapped inside your own body is horrifying, but seeing it from the perspective of someone facing it and watching as he coped with his condition, how he tried to battle though it and still stay active and productive was really fascinating. It's based on a true story that was written by the guy (dictating by using his only means of communication with the outside world, his left eyelid), and knowing that it really happened makes it even more incredible.
Overall, I give my day's movie going experience eight million, seven hundred and fifty-two thousand, four-hundred and eleven dancing Drinky Crow cats (http://home.comcast.net/~erickson.doug/catdance.gif) out of fifteen Christmas Gerstmanns :gerstmann and two Drudge Sirens. :drudge

These are the two films I plan on seeing when we get back home to Seattle this weekend, thanks for honest reviews.

Pans was 20000006!
-
that's how awesome it is and that's how bad 2007 was.
Pan :bow I have it in my laptop dvd drive right now. I watch it at work very often.
-
I've enjoyed 2007 more than 2006. Mainly due to all the awesome indie comedies. Best year for the indie comedy this decade, easily.
Neither 2006 or 2007 hold up to 2001-2004 in terms of great movies though.
-
rating movies wasn't enough, so now you have rate years???
-
I am not rating them :lol Rating them would be like OMG 2007 WAS a 8.5 YEAR. I am done with rating movies, PD's obsession with rating everything ruined them. :-\
IIRC is was shake who began the whole EB rating and ranking movie threads.
-
I miss Shake. Haven't talked to him since Christmas :'(
He gets a 9.25 :-*

No Country for Old Men
No Country for Old Men
No Country for Old Men
Honorable Mention: JUNO
Actual Honorable Mention instead of prodding the board for a trollfest: Across the Universe. Even though it sounds like it's one of those love it a lot or hate it with a passion films. But hey, Cheebs doesn't like it, and it's a Beatles musical. Win for me.
-
I thought Across the Universe was pretty good in parts. I liked the draft scene. :lol
-
I thought Across the Universe was pretty good in parts. I liked the draft scene. :lol
It was everything I was looking for in a musical. Plot Progression during the songs, a decent plot, and kickass music. It doesn't get much more kickass than the Beatles.
Let it Be sequence: one of the best filmed sequences this year.
-
there are many things more kickass than the beatles!

1. No Country for Old Men

3. Dan In Real Life
Eastern Promises, Zodiac, Bourne Ultimatum, Die Hard, The Kingdom, Resident Evil 3, and Rescue Dawn all get a MEH from me. EP and RD might get picked up cheap someday in the future.
