I've seen enough retail evidence to suggest that the hacking and pirating of their portable is now mainstream; it's more than just Internet flunkies hacking the system. That's why their hardware sales are great, but their software sales suck. Problem is, mainstream folks actualy pay dirty pirates (like demi!) to hack the system for them.
This is so widespread that Sony is going to have to do what Apple did with iTunes - offer a competing, legal service that is more convenient at a very affordable price.
Why doesn't Sony just hire all the folks who hacked the PSP and get them to make some kind of pay-for downloadable firmware that enables purchases of old PSOne games for like $1.99 a pop?
They're missing the boat to make SOME money with this handheld instead of absolutely none.

That idea is just too good to become true. I would definitely use that kind of service, which is basically Steam-light for portables, right?
It's too bad that Sony already missed that boat with the current generation of the PSP. The pirating/hacking kind of got out of hand. However, I am sure that Sony will implement a similar service for the next iteration of its portable console. They already started the process by opening the PS Store for the PSP.
I am sorry if this post seems a bit incoherent, I am suffering from the worst hangover ever. :duh

I'm sure they'll do this soon. didn't they already announce downloadable PS1 games will come to PSP? They need to offer the old games for super cheap and then also allow people to download full versions of real PSP games at a discount (because they don't include box, manual, etc.) for like $30-40. That's the best choice imo. People will be tempted to first use the service for cheap classic titles, and then out of laziness they may buy actual PSP games on there instead of using slow torrents. There is the possibility that brick & mortar stores will lose what little sales they have and be pissed off though.

piracy isn't the main problem, sorry
its way easier to pirate games for DS and look how well that fucking shit sells regardless
although maybe its the demographic, teens/adults are more likely to pirate games for psp than ds owners who are more likely to be children and don't use the internet to research this kind of stuff?

PSP hardware is selling good for a first time handheld by Sony.

Viz you're a dum dum.
DS can't do emulation of PSOne and other classic titles near the quality the PSP can.
