Title: Name your personal Game of the Year for 2007

For me, it's all about the

MASS ERECT

mainly because of the storyline quality. Even with the framerate dips, the game is pretty damn good looking too. But mainly because the game pushes so many fucking storyline boundaries. I never expected to pick up a game that makes you
spoiler (click to show/hide)
make tough command decisions that may kill your squadmates
has gay and lesbian storylines
makes you take a stance on racism (intergalactic racism, sure, but the parallelism is there)
makes you take a stance on if there is a God or not
has one of the best storylines in gaming

Seriously, it's hard for me to put down the controller. BioWare has released their ultimate achievement with this game.

mass effect has awful, embarrassing writing. even by videogame standards. i'm a nubile blue-skinned alien scientist who little understands you volatile humans and your 'emotions' oh and by the way all i'm going to talk about over the course of this game is how awesome sex with me is tee hee

and while i guess bioware have done a credible job of stocking their world with nerdy sci fi obscurities, the actual plotting and dialogue are totallly inept. the best writing in mass effect occurs in some of the planet descriptions. srsly.

I'm with drohne. I love the universe they've created, but the dialogue isn't great by any standard. I haven't gotten far enough to really judge the storyline yet.

I've never seen the theatrical cut of Blade Runner, but I imagine the narration is similar to the phoned-in voice acting of Shepard.

Persona 3. The addicting element of "one more day!" had me playing that game wee hours in the morning. It was never possible for me to play 1 hour of Persona 3 at any time. Ever. When I played that game, I always needed 4-5 hours to fully enjoy it because it so goddamn addicting.

I've played SMG,Halo 3,Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc this year....I don't know if I can choose just one.

titan quest: immortal throne, probably. tomb raider anniversary also got me to do two playthroughs of it, which i almost never do with lengthy action games.

I would have to say Puzzle Quest (loved it so much on the 360 that I went out and bought it for my replacement DS!) and Dead Rising (while it didn't come out in '07 it kept me glued to the monitor for most of the year).

And of course, Puzzle Pirates. Although the turmoil of my life hasn't left me much time to play it over the last couple of months.

Gundam Musou is my game of 2007. It's not going to change the industry or anything, but I had more fun with it than any other title this year.

I had a lot of fun with the likes of Crackdown, Musou Orochi, Phoenix Wright 3, Dracula X, Bioshock, Arcana Heart, Virtua Fighter 5, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes, and a lot more, plus there's games I've only just begun like Crush, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Uncharted, Shin Sangoku Musou 5, Unreal Tournament, and shit tons more, but probably the most fun I've had this year has been with Halo 3.  The multiplayer, particularly the deathmatch modes, give me tons of fun every time I load it up, be it by myself or with friends, and that's all that really counts in the end.

My backlog has only grown ever-larger this year, too.  So many unplayed or barely touched games.   :-\  I need to kick this habit of buying new games when I have yet to finish others.

I also enjoyed Oblivion--I know it was not released this year--Crackdown, Ouendan 2, Rock Band, BioShock, Metroid Prime 3, and Virtua Fighter 5.

Super Mario Galaxy by far.

I really should just buy SKATE. I've barely touched Vegas, Halo 3 has been played only a bit more, and I don't see myself spending much more time with VF5, thinking about it. I bet I'd play SKATE to death. I'm definitely going to rent it, though.

And it's hard not to pick the Orange Box, as Genghis said. I guess my single GOTY would be COD4.

ooo, super stardusth d was definitely my dl game of the year, followed closely by pacman ce. why are these two games not getting more love? they're both better than anything on the wii!

SSHD is indeed awesome. I know it's not even close in terms of qualify, but speaking of PSN titles, I've been having a blast playing Pain with friends lately. The 4-player HORSE mode is great fun.

As for Japan only games, I've sunk a ton of time into Another Century's Episode 3: The Final.

Probably SMG.

I loved Mass Effect but not because it was great, simply because I love games where I get a space ship and get to cruise the galaxy like some kind of bad ass. If someone makes a game like this where I'm a pirate/smuggler it will be the best fucking game ever. The pre sex dialogue was atrocious.

God of War 2 is probably my second favorite game of the year.

Bioshock was fun from a narrative stand point but the more I played it the less I enjoed the gameplay.

This is highly personal, and i'll probably want to retroactively revise it when I get around to finishing all the GOTY candidates i have stacked up around here but for me, no game provided more fun this year than Forza 2. Honorable mention to Crackdown, which provided the single most intense gaming session i've ever had - beat the SP and got most of the orbs in one crazed 8hr sitting with no breaks at all. Best day ever.

Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed. I haven't played much of Assassin's Creed, but the little I did play was awesome. As for Mass Effect, I admit that it has a lot of flaws, but it was really fun anyways for me.
