Too complicated. Thanks though.

http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=MKVExtractGUI
This will split the video and audio out of the .mkv and then you can convert it to DVD
Their is no way to go from .mkv directly to a DVD.

I saw that one - too much work. I've installed like 5 things and I can't even get the files to play on the computer, let alone converted to AVI. Everything says it's missing things needed, even though I install everything it says it needs to work.
I'm over it. Downloading AVIs, like I should have in the first place.

MKV is a great format, but I just dont think transcoding software is where it needs to be to support it.
-
MKV is just a container. You don't have to do anything to play it on your computer except installing something like the CCP.

Mkv is short for Matroska Video file. Go me!

I went through the same shit trying to download fansubs.
I downloaded a program called Haali Media Splitter and the Matroska Pack to get the files to play in Windows Media player (also had to mess with something called a VSFilter to get the sub titles to work).
Google those 2 files and try them out, the files will play on all my PCs now even my Media PC. Can't help with the DVD thing :-\

wait..so i can just burn Avi's onto dvds and they'll play on dvd players?
I've thought i would have to make them into 'dvd isos' or something like that.

No you need a tool to transcode the AVI to dvd format. See unlike a straight up AVI, a MKV file contains multiple media streams, and that, ultimately, is the problem. Additionally a lot of newer files required different codecs lik AC3 n shit like that and im not sure how much more complicated that can make things.
