I have a friend who has the hacked PSP firmware 3.71 M33-4 (I'm just reading this off his PSP, I have zero experience in fucking around with custom firmware and downloading games myself). He's trying to download some ROMz for piracy purposes, but for some reason, a few files he's torrented don't seem to work. He downloaded Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology but the game seems to be split into several smaller files and he's not sure how to fix it so that it works correctly. :/
I told him I'd ask around to see if anybody here knows how to fix it. Also, we tried playing FFT via ad hoc against each other, but I guess pirated games don't work with multiplayer when you're playing against someone who has the official version (i.e., me)? Kinda sucks since I was looking forward to get some of the multiplayer-only items.
-
if they're split, like .r01 .r02 .r03, you open it with WinRAR
also, i'm pretty sure you can play pirated games with legit games, it could be another issue
-
I'm gonna get a PSP tomorrow. :)
-
For FFT, did you make sure you both had the English version, or both had the Japanese version, or something like that? There really shouldn't be an issue, unless one of you had wi-fi turned off :-\
i have the feeling one had the Pal version since it was torrented before the US version, iirc.
-
omg mvc on psp, omg snkvscapcom on psp omg omg
-
So far the only downside ive seen with cps2psp is that I cant adjust the difficulty for the fighters afaik
-
you have joined the illustrious and wonderous world of custom firmware?
-
yes, but only for teh romz, not for 'teh psp games'.
Also I want Crash Team Racing on my PSP so bad :D
Gotta wait till I get a bigger card for that to happen.
-
go beat up twiggy mcBarf and take his 8GB stick
-
he's actually giving me a 4gb :bow :bow :bow
-
why stop there, its YOUR gas that is carrying him to taco bell for lunch
you hear that, TWIGGY MCBARF - HIS gas
-
he also did the hack job for me!

Sure you can. Just make sure you have a button set to turn the service switch on (just turn the coin button off and turn this on instead), go into the service menu, and from here you can adjust the difficulty levels as well as enable free play.
-
he also did the hack job for me!
which i taught him how to do originally, did he ever thank me? SEND ME MY STUFF TWIGGY MCBARF
-
Thats a control option in cps2psp? awesome ill try it out!
-
I wish someone would hack mine. I'm considering keeping my PSP, but I know if I try to hack it myself it's all just going to end in a puddle of tears
if only some kindly evilborean would come to my rescue
-
you can send it to me if you want
-
What firmware and PSP do you have? I'm soon to have a pandora, And I might just be passing through NC at some point in the next few weeks.

:o
Yeah dude, it's the home button on newer versions, start and select together for older ones. You can also adjust screen sizes and tons of other shit. The best version of CPS2 is 2.5 I've found, and for Neo-Geo, 2.4 works the best for me. 2.5 didnt seem to take a lot of the newer Neo-Geo games I have.
-
No no I mean assigning a button as service, in PC emu it was an F* key usually
-
I am using mvspsp right now, it works fine cept for a couple metal slug games for some reason. the cache dir take up a lot of space sadly

U R NOT INFORMED
You don't need to make cache files for most games if you are gaming on a Slim. Also make sure you are using 2.2.4 or 2.2.5 and nothing older. I have pretty much the entire Neo-Geo library on my Slim and maybe around 10 cache files. CPS2 games don't need cache files anymore, BTW.
Also hunt around for different ROM sets if some dont play. RetroRoms is a good site, you need to sign up but the ROMs from their MAME Archive work great.
-
Its not that im not informed, its that I couldnt read the japanese readme file.
I dont do cache for cps2

Fuck the readme files...just go to the Maxconsole or qj.net forums for all the info you need!
-
thats a lot of work, id rather guess and get yelled at by people in japan

I WILL KEEP YOU IN LINE! GRR.

Does it actually make any difference? I have the US version, but I dunno which version he torrented.
About Tales of the World, the files were split, but they weren't .rar files. They were .001, .002, .003, etc. Right after I made the thread he tried connecting his PSP to his PC but for some reason the PC refuses to recognize it. He thinks his girlfriend fucked up his PC's USB drivers when she installed a printer yesterday. :(
-
i dunno if there is a difference really.
as for the file, i googled: http://www.binaries4all.com/001/

winRAR, load up .001 and extract

Really? That would be the coolest. Check PMs, plz
-
I wonder if anything different appears in the startup screen if you have the European version. I'll have to check with him tomorrow. Damn, that's the only way to get a bunch of secret new items too. :(
-
Hey Ichirou, out of curiousity...what made you hack your PSP? You were against it before.
-
I didn't hack it.
-
I didn't hack it.
:'(
-
I mostly wanted to because I saw my friend's hacked PSP and I liked the idea of playing games from a memory stick (games I already own, of course!).
-
Ichirou, you can back up legit games to memory stick with a PSP
Read here

But my PSP isn't running custom firmware, and it's apparently impossible to do so since it's running on 3.51.
-
Yea I was referring to your friend's PSP, since you were dorking around with downloading a torrent
-
Oh, hay, that's true...we could back up my copy of FFT on his PSP and see if we can get a melee match running that way. At least it would clear up any doubts about what the problem might be.
Unfortunately he can't even connect it to his PC right now so he can't do much of anything with it other than play the stuff he's already got in his memory stick. :/
-

Pandora should solve that problem. Didn't DCharlie say he could lend you a battery?
I have some shocking news for you: I BUY PSP GAMES! :o Tons of them. I use the hacked PSP for emulation, memory stick loading, and 333mhz mode. Have I downloaded games I don't own? Sure. I usually do it to try out games first and see how they are...beats demos!
-
Hay wait, since my friend has a hacked slim PSP, couldn't we create a Pandora battery using that? I mean, the PSP fatty's batteries are compatible with the PSP slim, right?

I'm not up to speed on how to do Pandora aside from how I do it, but a quick google popped this out

I am not liable for any damage you may cause, lol

So tempted to do that...

That's what I use it for 95% of the time. It took so damn long to get those games fully playable in portable form, too.
-
The CPS2/neo geo games run perfectly? Or is it some half-assed bullshit like the SNES emulation apparently is?
-
its perfect dude, like im fuckin stunned how functional the emulators are and how well the roms run. Im honestly floored.
-
yeah, it is FUCK AMAZING.
