Title: Anyone here go for LASIK surgery?
Post by: tiesto on January 04, 2008, 07:19:28 PM
Well, after debating for a while (like a good 2 years) whether or not I wanted to attempt this, I finally went in for a consulation and they said I'm a perfect candidate for LASIK. I've worn glasses since the 9th grade and I've always detested the way I looked in them, and my eyes are too sensitive to put contacts in so that's why I've been debating. The operation is scheduled in 13 days, I'm pretty excited for it (going for the bladeless surgery, got a $1000 discount too  8)).

Anybody here have the surgery done, and if so I'd be interested in your experiences.

I wouldn't let anyone put lazors into my eyes.

My friend did it, he's very happy with it. I think his vision is affected at night though.

Yeah, they said that you might see halos on bright lights at night, unless you go for the super-duper special bladeless surgery, which I did. You are from the island, iirc? Do you know the place your friend went to perchance?

I look better with glasses.  I have like permanent black circles around my eyes, and glasses with a nice tint hide it nicely.

Nope.

He might have actually done it out of the country. He stopped living here for a few years there, and I think that's when he got the surgery. Or maybe it was when he was very young, I don't remember.

I got it done about a year ago. It's about less than a minute of excrutiating uncomfortableness in your eyes, but it is so worth it. You don't even realize some of the benefits you get. Like when I went swimming and realized I could actually see in the pool and not worry about getting glasses wet. Or going on one of those 3-D movies at Disney World and actually being able to experience the 3-D.

It was very weird though, I had this nervous tic of adjusting my glasses, and I kept going to do that afterwards only to realize they weren't there.

I had it done about 4/5 years ago. Best money I ever spent. It's tremendously liberating, not having to worry about those stupid glasses all the time. It's a little bit scary 'cause you have to keep your eyes open as the blade descends towards them but it doesn't hurt in the least 'cause of the anaesthetic. My vision is pretty much perfect now. If I had a gun, I'm sure I could kill like 100 people with a single clip. The world is a MUCH better place.

I though about this once. I wouldn't want to do it now though, it would prevent me from being a police officer/hitman.

Is that true? My friend wants to be a cop now :lol

heh, same thing happened to me when I stopped wearing glasses.  since I only had astigmatism, not wearing glasses for a summer healed my eyes but I would still constantly try to push up my glasses.  it felt kind of weird not having a piece of metal anchored into my nose leaving huge welts.

My uncle and dad both got it done, the former almost a decade ago now. Neither of them had any problems other than needing some eye drops. They didn't have the bladeless surgery. I don't remember where they got it done, though.

And I too get that nervous tick of pushing my frames up if I wear my glasses for a day or two instead of my contacts. I feel like such an idiot. :lol

My uncle did it a few years ago. He can't drive at night anymore, but he can see and that's a huge improvement.

He wore glasses his whole life. He also wore HARD contacts, like in recent times, because his prescription was too strong for soft ones. His eyes were that bad, lol. I'm talking legally blind without vision correction.

Needless to say, he loved LASIK.

I don't have too much problems with my night vision, sometimes I'll get a little worse than usual glare off of headlights, but not enough to impede my driving.
