I just got rockband today and had friends over; I used the unlock-all code, and holy god, does the lineup freaking sucks. I gotta say the lineup is equal to GH2 where they only had loud angsty garbage; the lineup of GH3 had lots of iconic songs that everyone knows. Rockband has tons of big mainstream names (Aerosmith! THE POLICE! RAMONES! SMASHING PUMPKINS!) but when you look at the track list, lots of the tracks are C-grade stuff from them that never got any kind of mainstream exposure.
At least the downloadable content will fix the crappy lineup, but damn.. My friends and I got bored of the tracklist within a hour and we went back to GH3 :|. As for the drums, it feels surprisingly solid, same thing with the guitar. It was kind of a huge jump going from the ps2's original GH1 guitars to this. But still, damn, I was aware of RB's lineup, but I didnt realise how tons of the songs were so C-grade.
I know tastes are very subjective; but party games like these need big iconic songs that most people will remember; not just dedicated fans of the band; I mean wtf was that Police song. I kinda feel bad about buying RB to be honest. Also the timing seems more tight for the guitar play.

I could care less about a tracklist of Billboard hits when it comes to music games - I care about how the tracklist plays. If you want to sing/play hits, just go buy a karaoke machine.

Oh please, it's not bad at all. Next to Guitar Hero 1, it's the best GH-like game tracklist.

The gameplay is alright and workable, and for karaoke, We already have singstar for that.
RB's problem is the same as GH2's was. They decided to focus too much on hardcore music-nerd song; leaving most regular, non hardcore gamers people kind of 'wtf i dont know these songs'.

I mean I knew those, and I really didn't know a lot of GH2. The stuff like Coheed and Cambria is a little more esoteric, but, uh, I ended up really liking that song.

GH2 has probably the worst track list of the 3 main games. 3 wasnt bad, but I still Rock the 80s track list better, even if poor people whined about price

GH1's tracklist can't be beat, but Rock Band's core lineup is better than GH2 or 3, sorry! Facts have been spoken, go back to your room

I listen to gay emo music and I know at least 3/5 the songs from my childhood
It's remembering the vocals which was the hard part... but the game provides them for you anyway

Wow, came into this thread based on the subject line expecting sarcasm. IMO RB is second only to the original GH in terms of track list, and if you figure in the DLC it actually comes out on top.

I think rockband has the best tracklisting of any of these games. The GH philosophy was always get 5-10 GREAT songs and pad the lineup with lots of shit. Rockband at least provides consistent goodness.

Just downloaded Interstate Love Song.
The Bowie songs are OMG, but Rock Band also lets me revisit the hits of junior high and high school. I love it just for that reason alone.

It's funny, I'd never seek a lot of these songs out just to listen to them, but playing them in Rock Band is sweet sweet adolescent nostaliga.
