Title: Don't know how to make a poll, but: Should I buy a refurb PS3 from Overstock?
Post by: Forgotten Ancient on January 12, 2008, 07:06:22 PM
Going to the gym in a few.

http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/Sony-Playstation-3-60GB-PS3-Genji-Game/2940082/product.html (http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/Sony-Playstation-3-60GB-PS3-Genji-Game/2940082/product.html)

When I get back, I'll tally the number of yes and no responses and base my decision 100% on that.
If there are 0 votes for either, I declare the PS3 a dead console.

That's too close to retail price, and Genji blows

Sure, why not?

I'm pretty sure you can get a 60GB for cheaper than that though, can't you? Without the bundled game?

Go get one from an ebay seller with a good record instead.  $30 isn't much of a discount for a refurbed unit, and Genji is worthless in trade

I'm surprised how quickly these online retailers ran out. ebgames.com had 20GBs right through October, but now they're out of 60GBs already?

Yes, the 60GB is the best SKU.

Do yourself a favour and trade in Genji though.

I've lost on 3 different auctions so far through Ebay, I got screwed into opening a Target card to get a *new* 60 gig PS3 yesterday that ended up being used, and my patience is wearing thin.

Looks like 2 to 1 in favor of YES; one of them being the awesome Admiral.

I'm going to call up my local K-Mart, Gamespot, and Wal-Mart.  I'm going to guess none of them have a 60 gig in stock.  If they do, I'll order...if not, I'm buying this through overstock unless someone wants to sell me theirs for cheaper lol.

 :-[ :heartbeat

BTW, I didn't actually vote in the poll, so it was really 3:1.

BUT OMG EVILBORE IS FOR XBOTS

edit: Oh, there is no poll :lol

Woo Hoo, Gamestop has a used one for $429.  With my trade in credit and some other stuff I should be able to get it for a fair price.

OMW OMW OMW
Is that for the $60 GB model?

for the 60 gig model, yeah.

Now I wish Blu-Rays weren't so damned expensive.  I feel like a dirty poor cus I only own 1 movie :(

Amazon has been having many Blu-ray sales lately.  You can get an additional $30 off if you sign up for their credit card.

Anyone that doesn't care about backwards compatibility should just get a new PS3 for the 5 free Blu-rays.  I think Best Buy was even offering 7-8 free BRs a few months ago.

Yeah, I want to make sure I get in on the next BOGO offer.  I'm kind of fearing that won't happen again for a good while though.

The BOGO deals were awesome.  The new 40% to 50% off sale is bullshit.  Each 50% title should cost exactly the same as it did in the BOGO sale but it's actually about $5 more.

Well, after reading that you found a Gamestop that had a used 60GB PS3, I decided to call around in my city.  One of the Gamestops had a 60GB for $430 here as well.  I already had $130 in-store credit.  I gathered up a bunch of old games and a huge stack of old DVDs and took them down and traded them in.  With a new copy of Uncharted I snagged a refurbished 60GB PS3 for just $215 out of pocket after all my trade in credit.  I probably could have gotten more money for the trade-ins selling them on eBay but I hate dealing with that shit.  Anyway... I'm happy to have finally joined the grouchy crowd of PS3 owners.

Buy it.  If I ever buy a PS3, I'm going to hunt for a 60GB model.

I've got the 80gig and I've played a ton of PS2 games on it without any problems whatsoever.  Seems to me like the PS2 emulation on the thing is exponentially better than the Xbox emu on the 360.  Must be because of the inclusion of the GS on the motherboard.  I know the 60gig is the one with "full" BC but I have yet to run across something that didn't work on my system.

360 = total software emulation + no xbox1 hardware licensing + ATI graphics chip (Xbox1 is Nvidia)

PS3 80 gig is basically using Cell as the main processor + PS2 graphics chip.
