Title: John Lennon's Imagine = Best thing to come out of that whole beatles fad
Post by: TVC15 on January 14, 2008, 09:19:33 PM: Not the song. I mean the whole album. It's a nice balancing act between pop, singer-songwriteriness, bitterness, humor and <3 Yoko. And it's more listenable than the plastic ono shit, which is also pretty hot.

My favorites are Crippled Inside, It's So Hard, Jealous Guy. How Do You Sleep? gets credit for being a Paul McCartney hate-on song. Gimme Some Truth would be awesome if it weren't politically dated.

I still say A Day in the Life is one of the best songs ever though, so McCartney has some credit in my book. Not a lot, but some. Beatles get a lot of odd hate nowadays, and I can understand why (anything pre-Rubber Soul is pure shit), but their later stuff, albums where you can see the artistic rift between the four, has some awesome awesome shit from Lennon.

They were pretty apathetic towards each other during the 70s. Harrison felt kind of bitter at how McCartney treated him when they were together in the band. They got closer after Lennon's death.

From what I've read up, I think Harrison took shit from McCartney during their tenure, saying things along the liens as like "Well John, George's songs are at least sort of as good as ours this year." He still greatly respected Paul, but I'm pretty sure he identified mroe with Lennon and they shared similar tastes for creating new types of music. McCartney is still a fucking lame love songwriter, through and through.

Probably, but Plastic Ono isn't the sort of album you want to put on repeat. There's plenty of cynicism on Imagine, but it is wrapped up in a nice-sounding package, and the rock/poppy sound makes it all sound awesomely wry and ironic.

And three Lennon albums, Malek. I like a significant portion of Double Fantasy. Watching the Wheels is a front-runner for my favorite song by Lennon.

I dunno if Lennon would even be political had he survived. of course, he changed every other year, so who knows. I doubt he'd still be living in the US in the first place.

But the Imagine era stuff, I can understand his political frustrations, between the whole Vietnam thing and Nixon like, diligently, repeatedly trying to have him deported. It's not difficult to be bitter about things when the PRESIDENT himself is trying to deport you.

I made peace with the Beatles earlier this year. I thought I had mentioned this previously. I generally only listen to the stuff from Rubber Soul to the white album, though.

There are good songs on Abbey Road and Let It Be that I listen to, but I don't think they are on the whole as consistent or interesting as albums. And Abbey Road has Maxwell's Silver Hammer (right?) aka the worst song EVAR

Peppers ever was (since, arguably, Sgt. Peppers was topped later by the very same band who created it). I don't know, you've all caught me during one of my flip-flops. I go between Pet Sounds and either Sgt. Peppers or the White albums as the best albums from the two bands, and at the moment I find more influence in Pet Sounds. Fuck, now you all have made me question my beliefs. :'(

I just listened to Within You Without You, that's a fucking rad song. And When I'm Sixty-Four is actually a pretty good McCartney song.

Even with that turd (I ALWAYS skip it along with Octopus's Garden), AR is still bloody brilliant. I Want You (She's So Heavy), Come Together, and Here Comes the Sun: :drool

Paul McCartney makes up for it with Oh! Darling (one of his most impressive vocal performances) and the ending medley, though.
