Title: Wired Gamecube controller >>>> Wavebird
Post by: abrader on January 15, 2008, 01:09:37 PM
Lastnight I pulled the old box of Gamecube stuff out of the closet because we wanted to play Mario Party 7.

We had 1 wired gamecube controller and one wavebird.....

OK the Wavebird really sucks...

- its way too big
- no rumble :(
- needs batteries
- heavier

Compared to some of logitech's offerings last gen for wireless controllers - the wavbird is definitely the ugly duckling.

How did this giganto controller with no rumble even get any respect?

Its drops signal more times than a 2006 SIXAXIS conspiracy.

I just ebayed a new black wired gamecube controller to replace the ugly silver wavebird monstrosity.

I've never had a dropped signal on my wavebird. Besides no rumble, I prefer it to the wired controller.

Perhaps there is too much wireless junk in my house interfering.

The XBOX and X360 controllers have no room to jazz on the GCN controller.

They are kinda neck and neck for worst D-pad ever.

It's damn near perfect.  Too bad it was a Gamecube controller.

Yep.  I liked the cube, but I always wanted an official wireless Dual Shock 2 from Sony.

Last gens wireless controllers were bad with rumble tho...

I had a wireless logitech controller for PS2 and playing ZOE2 with rumble on would lkill the battery in like 30 minutes.

My Dual Shock 3 for PS3 lasts as long as the SIXAXIS battery with rumble on.

It's RF based iirc.

If the 360 had the dual shock d-pad it would be the best pad ever.

pretty much, I love the 360 pad, its a joy to game with, only shortcoming is the dpad, which really, really sucks

so many times have I gone to change my weapon in Doom only to have the map pop up instead  :'(

Everything was perfect about the Wavebird except the lack of rumble, which you ceased to notice about a week after you got one.

Also, Gamecube controller haters can STFU. The controller was so perfectly shaped it would just meld with your hand. It was great for everything except 2D fighters, alienating 0.005% of the gaming population I suppose.

Are you talking about the analogue controller?

Oh and the Wavebird was one of the few things that Nintendo did right during the GCN era.

I just found out that I have 3 wavebirds total stashed in my junk closet.''

Battery life is amazing.

I guess rumble is really that important to me.

Wavebirds rule, I've never had a dropped signal even with 3 going at once.

Gamecube controllers in general suck pretty bad. Weird ass buttons (especially the shoulder ones) totally destroy it.

That's the thing with Nintendo controllers, there's usually one bad thing about them. The N64 controller brought analog sticks into play, but the stick broke so easily and the rest of the controller is a mess because of how big and awkward feeling it is. The Gamecube controller is much better in aspects, but those DAMN SHOULDER BUTTONS SUCK. Totally destroyed any FPS appeal on the system.

Which is why the Wii controller is awesome in so many aspects. Sure, it's a gimmick, but you can attach a Classic controller to it for the old games, making all N64 experiences so much better. Plus, looking at the past two controllers for their systems, it's like a breath of fresh air that it's actually comfortable to hold and it might actually last more than a year or so.

ITs biggest crime is the d-pad....I like  the c-stick ;)

the gamecube cord was like 5 feet. just for that, the wavebird was better.
