I'm going to pick up the TV after work. 8)
It's Samsung 4665.
Is upgrading to HDMI going to be worth it?
-
if you've got a big tv, it's worth it imo. i'm rockin' an elite on my 50" panny. looks so sexy.
like abrader said, make sure you've got 1080p support.
-
Do you get 1080p out of it?
If so YES - get an X360 elite
-
Will upscaled games from 720p look better in 1080p upscaled?
-
depends on the set, really. but for the most part, upscaled games look perfect through hdmi.

Perfect as in, better?
-
Either way Fancy Feast - yer gonna be in <3<3<3 when you get home.
GO for the Elite!
-
it's not that much of a difference. if you can do 1080 over component you're just fine.

You can't I thought....

I was thinking of getting an arcade with a Falcon. No? I have a buddy with a buddy at MS who keeps saying he is going to get me a 120 GB cheap... but who knows...
-
perfect as in indistinguishable. i don't see any quality degradation on my end.

I can, guess you got a shitty TV
-
You can do 1080i over component. You need HDMI to do 1080p. I believe that's the deal.

Well, the thing is that no GAMES output in 1080p...at least to my knowledge. lol HD-DVD addon
-
HDMI gives richer colors from what I hear anyway.
-
Uh, you can upscale games to 1080 over component. You want a picture?

Depends on the set, though. Some Sony sets don't allow 1080p over component.
But you're right, Demi.

Just personal preference here, but i think the image quality is a bit more "crisp" over hdmi
-
now that I have an HDMI-compatible 360, should I swap from component to HDMI if I'm just playing games in 720p?
-
Here's the thing about HDMI over 360 - you have to buy an adapter to use the optical sound. Otherwise, the HDMI and component plug won't fit at the same time. That adapter/cable package is $50. Unless you want to carve out the plastic around the component cables so it will fit under the HDMI cable.
-
I just use component on my 360, cause my upscaling dvd player and ps3 are hdmi. ALL OUTTA PORTZ. Sure I could get hdmi x360 and use that as an upscaling dvd player, but that killed my first 360. I am still not super impressed with ps3 upscaling dvds. Blurays rock tho omgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

wait, what! bother that nonsense. upscaling OPPO and PS3, I choose you! go away other ports

I keep reading that all one needs to do is crack open the base of the cable with a screwdriver and the optical fits fine after that.

that does sound pretty easy
i'd probably put a layer of electrical tape around the exposed metal

What kind of TV did you have before, Fancyfeast?
I was so blown away when I got my Bravia a few years ago. Went from 4:3 480p to 16:9 1080i/720p goodness :o :o :o
HD :bow :bow :bow
Gotta get a bigger set next though. My TV is only 20 inches.
-
My old one is a sony wega 30 inch CRT 1080i(with super fine pitch). GOing to put that in the bedroom. It has an amazing picture as I'm sure you can guess, but we moved the couch in our new place and we needed a bigger set to accomidate. :drool
SOme thoughts, this new set is pretty much as close as an LCD can get to a CRT/Plasma that I've ever seen. The blacks are so rich, the lights are nice and bright. Simply awesome. The motion blur is barely noticable in COD4, which is the best test I can think of to test for blur. Awesome shit.
This set has amazing STANDARD definitaion output. I have my comcast box going through an HDMI port. looks damn sharp.
THis set is fucking huge and beautiful, I'm in shock. SO NICE!!!
Next step, get a larger hard drive, and my media center is complete. Streaming over the 360. :bow
-
I need assassins creed next. And maybe mass effect. :rock

Lost Planet if you have it or the demo, one of the best motion blur showcase this gen.

I upgraded to a HDMI 360 a few months ago and I thought it was completely worth it. However, if my friend hadn't been kind enough to buy my previous 360 for just $50 less than full retail price, I'm not sure if I would have upgraded.
Like others have said, it all depends on your display. 1080P w/ HDMI made far more of a difference for my 24" PC monitor than for my Sony XBR. It's probably because PC monitors aren't very good at upscaling. So if your TV's pretty decent at upscaling from 720P, you might want to wait. Also, you don't need to get a Elite like Abrader was saying. All the 360s on shelves now should have HDMIs. You just need to look at the box to check.
-
Arcade would do.
-
It depends on the quality of the set whether it will make a difference. Colors are much better through HDMI on my tv.
1080p through component is possible, but most tv's do not accept it. 1080p HD DVD'S or Blu Ray's are not allowed over component for piracy reasons
-
$50 for HDMI and audio at the same time! Microsoft!!
