They may be two very different games, both appealing to vastly different audiences, but that does not stop Rez HD And Chessmaster LIVE teaming up to hit the Xbox Live Arcade the Wednesday after next (30th January). Chessmaster LIVE boasts Voice-chat and Live Vision capabilities for head-to-head matches, along with competent AI for when you are playing offline - we guess the camera support is presumably so you can watch people think for a very long time. On the other hand, Rez HD will play pretty much the same as the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 game of old, but will have updated sound, and be enhanced visually thanks to the crazy technology of the world we currently live in.

"Bringing the Chessmaster series to Xbox Live Arcade makes the game accessible to a whole new audience,” said Peter Helm, business development associate at Ubisoft. “Chessmaster LIVE is not only a comprehensive chess program, but it is also one that has expanded beyond the traditional game to include exciting features for fans, both old and new."

Unfortunately, no one has commented on the upcoming release of Rez HD yet, but if they did I am sure it would go something like this. "We are extremely happy to finally be able to release Rez HD on the XBLA," said Random PR man. “Thanks to the power of the system gamers can now finally experience Rez the way it was meant to be played, offering fans old and new a crystal clear high-definition look at the unique world created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi and his team at Q Entertainment".

edit: updated source thanks to Groo.

What's your 5.1 set up, Patel?

I might pick one up for my birthday next week.

My cousin actually wrote the music for the first Chessmaster game while I stayed over at his house one summer.  Strange but true.

Pretty chintzy; I live in an apartment so there's no sense in blowing out the wattage. I have a $200 Onkyo 7.1 receiver (only use 5.1, tho). Onkyo's are pretty solid, and I like how it has 3 optical and 1 coaxial digital input on the back, avoiding the need for a switchbox.

For speakers I just bought a $250 5.1 Yamaha box from somewhere on Froogle. I basically got the cheapest set with reasonable (i.e. not-6-inch) front-left, front-right speakers.

You have all the current consoles set up fine too?

yup, I have:

Oppo upscaling DVD player - Coax 1
PS3 - Digital 1
Xbox 360 - Digital 2
Xbox (modded media center) - Digital 3

The only system I have that could be digital but is not set up as such is the PS2. But since most of my PS2 gaming is on the PS3 nowadays, same difference.

thank goodness Wii is stereo only! saving me valuable digital ports. (oh Nintendo)

did you ever get the remote Wii sensor bar or are you still running cables across your room?

i'm still doing the latter and it's messy :/

I spliced speaker wire into the bar to extend it--I then bought a second "pure" sensor bar off nintendo.com cause moving the spliced contraption is a mess of baling wire and duct tape and fear. It's nasty and awful and I hate Nintendo.

I still have nightmares about someone playing rez in my dorm for, oh I don't know, 5 hours a day for months.

Before he dropped out of college due to severe schizophrenia, my roommate played about 8 hours of GoldenEye a day for 3 weeks straight, trying to unlock the invincibility cheat. He hated that motherfucker Dr. Doak.

he dropped out of college due to severe schizophrenia...8 hours of GoldenEye a day for 3 weeks straight
any scientific correlation? or was he just not manning up?

he was kind of bipolar. I think the bipolarity came before the Rare fandom, if you want to play Cause and Effect.

He did get the cheat, in the end.
