seriously. fucking amazing experience. GO SEE IT NOW.

smh
-
It wasn't groundbreaking, nor was it even the best movie I saw over the weekend (that honor goes to I'm Not There), but it was fun.
-
:rock :rock :rock
-
it wasn't groundbreaking at all but shit was it good. better than that awful Halloween remake and all the other claptrap horror movies that have come out the past 3 or so years.
-
Better than Transformers lol
-
better than that awful Halloween remake and all that other claptrap.
Yeah, I never saw any of that stuff.

This too.

More like "cloverfield is better than every 'blockbuster' in recent memory" even though it came out in January and not the summer.
-
and fucking Saw
-
and fucking Saw
Nope, didn't see those either.

WTF CAJOLE YOUR AVATAR MAKES ME WANT TO FAP

Nope, didn't see those either.
The last new "horror" movie I saw was 28 Days Later. All the Saws and remakes and Rob Zombie torture porn things do nothing for me.
-
it's still better than any other mega blockbuster that has come in the past year. Every other blockbuster has been disappointing, Bourne aside. Spider Man? Check. Transformers? Check. Pirates 3? Check. Fantastic Four 2? Check. Finally a good Hollywood blockbuster movie.

Veronica got that reaction on GAF too
thanks for repeating what I just said himu

If the Halloween remake is your measuring stick for quality, fucking everything is Citizen Kane.

I didn't say it was quality. But seriously. Among all of these of these god awful horror movies that have come out the past 3-4 years, has there been any GOOD ones, Cloverfield aside? Silent Hill? Dawn of the Dead remake?

There have been a few good ones. But for giant monsters, you have The Host, which is fuck all awesome.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't gotten around to seeing that. I'd probably have a different opinion of Cloverfield if I had seen it beforehand. I still think the whole handheld camera device was really pulled off fucking well, though.

The Host is about as different from normal giant monster movies as Cloverfield is, probably. It is pretty random and Korean.
-
Yea, I've heard good things. I knew it was an Asian film.

what?
i know i'm a horror elitist, but surely it can't hold a candle to black devil doll

I loved The Host when I saw it in theaters, and loved re-watching it on Blu-ray.
Should giant monster movies even be considered part of the horror genre?
-
I was gonna say, uh, Cloverfield is not a horror movie?
-
an absence of allah is the true horror

28 Weeks Later smh
-
Cloverfield > 28 Weeks Later
-
28 Weeks Later is a fucking mess. Starts out interesting but it goes down the toilet pretty fast. As soon as they get out of London and into that mansion, it really becomes unwatchable.

I was wondering that myself. Giant monster movies appear to be more usually related to action, if anything. They don't really shoehorn into any one genre.

They're disaster movies. Cloverfield, especially, is just World Trade Center with an alien thingie instead of hijacked planes.

I believe you're thinking of 28 Days Later.

lol...yeah.
You know, it's not the first time I've made that mistake. I was having a discussion with a guy at work who was talking about 28 Weeks and I was thinking 28 Days so I chimed in. It didn't dawn on me that we were talking about 2 different movies until the next day....lol.
