Sorry KIDS, I like it, the jumps are awesome, the sounds are meaty, good stuff. Its basically Midnight Club if it didnt suck.
-
Wow, jumps and sounds! AMAZING
-
i'll probably end up liking "aspects" of it as well. the whole open world thing can suck a fat one though. i'll find out when i get my copy tomorrow.
-

Too busy blowing shit up in Heavy Weapon. At least I don't have to drive my tank to the beginning of a level to retry.
-
HAHA least I have Burnout Paradise!
-
I have Advance Wars! :P
-
haha you both bought games
-
GTFO PIRATE
-
I rented it. Demo sux'd.
-
I like Midnight Club. It's like Burnout Paradise if IT didn't suck.
MIDNIGHT CLUB II OMG
-
Thats awesome different class types get boost in different ways. I unlocked two cars so far, I put in my pre-order code for the steel wheels but i guess I gotta do something else to get it in my junkyard.

Yea, i thought that was cool until I read that the boost/speed cars don't actually go any faster.
-
It matters what car you drive for particular events, nothing wrong with that. Take your gafatar to another thread thx
-
MAF why are you being so mean? :(
-
week tops
-
I hate that avatar sorry. Just earned Hunter Vegas. I love having to earn cars by chasing them through the whole city trying to take them down.
-
If you really hate it that much, I'll change it just for you. :P
-
gaf's worship of internet girls always makes me cringe! thats all!
-
well in that case, i might as well not bother :-\
-
Oh no :(
-
Hunter Vegas is best car yet! its all PIMP
-
Midnight Club II was the best racing game of last gen (Paris FTW)
In Burnout Paradise, can you restart in the middle of a race? I've heard conflicting reports.

I bought Burnout Paradise, too. After spending an hour with it, it's much better than the demo lead me to believe.
-
Im close to a C license, I got the cool pimped out Hunter Vegas
-
I'm digging it. The online "freeburn" is more fun than expected. Seems like a good drinking/pass the control around game.
Got it on 360 for custom soundtracks. :spin
-
and achievements omg
-
I got "Criterion Fever" in my first online race! :lol
-
whats required for that?
-
MAF, have you noticed any tearing/slowdown so far?
-

how so
-
smooth: honestly none at all, confirm with distant
-

Apparently it's like a viral achievement. You take down someone with it, and you get it. I'll be on tomorrow if anyone still needs it. I have no idea if it's supposed to be hard to get or not. :dur
-
ah ok thats pretty awesome. I need to try out some of the online stuff
-
Maf, have you beaten any game since DW:Gundam?
-
I've technically beat WoW!
-
Midnight Club is stupid.
-
someone with common sense omg
-
I bought Burnout Paradise, too. After spending an hour with it, it's much better than the demo lead me to believe.

Beats me, but I'm having fun with it. Remember fun?
I've got the PS3 version and haven't noticed any tearing or slowdown.

Yeah, it's in sweet awesome good games like COD4 and Ass Creed, not Need For Speed Burnout
-
I bought it and I like it. Fuckers.
-
360 version here, no tearing or slowdown. Buy either, the game is FUN
-
I like it. . .but I have to say that I WOULD HAVE been disappointed had I not known to readjust my expectations a bit, post-demo.
It has a Crackdown-like exploration element to it. It's fun to just cruise around the city. Game looks fuck great. I would try online but I am torrenting lots of european TV.
-
I just didnt play the demo. As half baked as shit is these days, best not to play a demo anymore
-
Anyone know how to get the pre-order car you unlock with the code? Is it an event thing? I want! AHHH!
-

Press start and use the L and R bumpers to change menus. There's a menu somewhere in there with a Promo Code option. You need to have certain classes of license for the promo cars, though.
Also, this is GOTY 2008.

:o :o :o
-
Also, this is this week's GOTY.
-
Actually nevermind, Advance Wars came out this week.
But REALLY, TVC? REALLY? You JUST said it was disappointing. Don't make me buy this. :-\
-

But REALLY, TVC? REALLY? You JUST said it was disappointing. Don't make me buy this. :-\
It is GOTY by default! Nothing else has come out. Advance Wars is more of the same and it is teh old and boring at this point. It's more pizzle than strategy, and even if it were more strategy than puzzle, the gameplay isn't deep enough for someone that's played MAN strategy games.
I told Willco last night that the comparison to Crackdown might go even further, in that the game might have a short shelf life once the exploration element starts growing thin.
-
Burnout is plenty fun, haters be damned. If you approach it like the last like 8 games that all did the same things, yeah youre gonna get pissed.
-

Yeah yeah I did that and its unlocked, but its not in the junkyard I suspect there's an event or its cruising around town and I need to trash it.
Anyway, this is a tinkering game, which I appreciate more and more these days as life has more crap going on. Some nights I just wanna grab some drink and fuck around with a game, and this, like crackdown, is that kinda game.

If you go to Gamefaqs, it says the requirements for the promo cars. For most of them you need an A or B class license; some even higher.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It'll be a good game to hop in and fuck around with for like an hour. Easy to play, good scenery, and you can wander around.
-
oh ok cool, that helps, im close to C but I wont be able to play more till tonight :(
-
yeah, once i got over the THIS ISN'T THE BURNOUT I KNOW i am very much enjoying it in a crackdown sort of way -- just ambling about and doing some spectacular races. also the game looks OMG, which is a welcome relief after the ugly-ass SNORE that is advance wars
i got the ps3 version because i feel bad for my ps3
-
I got the STEEL WHEELS or whatever
-
my daughter gives it THUMBS UP. it is officially the "fast car game," followed by "daddy needs to stop being bad at car driving" :'(
-
HAHA
-
You can REALLY be bad at drive in BP, it rox. My favorite events are still Man Hunt and chasing down a car to add it to my junkyard. The stunt stuff wont be really fun till I know the town better. I will say the early stunt stuff should be early with Hunter Vegas, as that's the easiest car to do donuts in lol
-

This is why Rock Band and now Burnout Paradise will be what I play the most. I hate to admit it, but I don't think I really have the time to invest in RPGs anymore. :'(
It isn't going to stop me from buying them, though!!

tinkering and Burnout in the same sentence :-\
-
tinkering and Burnout in the same sentence :-\
Burnout (and all other arcade racers) has always been a tinkering game for me. I can jump in, race a couple courses, and call it good.
-
the only thing i don't care much for is that the stunt areas on the sidewalks (ramps) aren't more clearly marked. yeah, i know, thrill of discovery and all that, but when you're flying down the street they are really easy to miss.
-
That's a valid complaint. I tend to pass gas stations right now and have to double back, but I double back all cool and do a drift and etc etc....
-
it still rules, and i can listen to my big band music while driving
HATERS B-GONE, BURNOUT PARADISE IS WYKYD
-
I honestly like the freedom, I guess this is the first burnout thats really my kinda burnout. I mean I liked the other games, but I find re-running lost races for crap far more frustrating because its the only way to approach the old games. At least in this one if I totally blow it I can drive it off and find something else.
-
chasing other cars down and wrecking them for your collection is awesome
manhunt is cool, too
i need to go online and goof off with some XBL goofs
-
yeah the chasing cars to earn them gets totally crazy. The best jump in the game is the one off in the mountains, but I goofed it cause I rolled near the end and couldnt stick a landing. LAME
-
Well its not like midnight club in that you dont go around challenging, its all very ad hoc, dont expect street cred or any underlying system to direct where and when you throw down with other cars. Its really just a big playground, in which most peoples milage will vary.

I'm thinking of tinkering in a different sense.
You bastards are going to make me buy this!
On the other hand, I'll only be able to play online with one of you. If RoboJ and Genghis are in, I'm in.
-
codes for new cars:

bestbuy
circuitcity
gamestop
code for steel wheels:

hahahah its that easy? jesus

:lol :lol
so much for the pre-order incentives.
-

Ha Ha Ha! Pre-Order!
-
I've got a B license and I've almost gotten enough wins to get the A license. I've done most of the 2 and 8 player challenges online. I love this game so much.

But you got it PS3!
I got it on 360. I always go for the superior version of multiplatform titles.

jooooooiiiin ussssssss

on a technical level I havent heard of much difference, but feature wise 360 > ps3

Oh, I got you confused with Prole. What a cigarillo that guy is.

hey!

oh...well this is awkward...

>:(
-
How come Cajole doesn't ask me to get it. I'm the only one who actively tries to play with him!
-
I dunno, you guys REALLY hated that demo...I didn't even download it because of what I kept reading!
Let's see how you all feel in a week.
-
yeah but you like that awful devil kings 2 whatever game, yuk
-

Please. I bought Mega Man Starforce after you hyped it up...that was a mistake. I WAN' MY MONEY BACK MAF. :'(
-
How come Cajole doesn't ask me to get it. I'm the only one who actively tries to play with him!
Because I haven't seen you participate in any of these Burnout arguments. I'm sorry, Will. :(
-
I did that just to make you mad and help capcom, you love Devil Kings 2 cause you've got some medical condition
-
every time i ask you fukks to play a game online i get wykyd ignored
-

Lyte, I'd say check out the demo if you can. The game is definitely good at what it does, but at first it was kind of harsh how different the game was. After checking out the demo and being disappointed, I just kind of stewed on it for a bit, and what I predicted would happen happened: the lack of good games in January got me to buy something I was considering skipping. But since my expectations had been lowered due to the demo, I was actually very pleased by the final product.
Basically, the best advice I can give is to pretend that Burnout isn't in the title.
As far as "seeing how we like it in a week," that is a valid point. I compared this game directly to Crackdown, which was the Best Thing Evar for a few days, but got boring once the exploration element dried up. I think the same thing may happen here.
every time i ask you fukks to play a game online i get wykyd ignored
You didn't ask me, nicca.
Also, my big complaint right now: No bodies in cars. I know, it is totally a nitpick, but when everything else in the game is so fucking detailed, the omission of people actually driving the fucking cars is pretty blatant.
-
TVC, I guess I'll give it a try. I've never been a big Burnout fan in the first place, so the change doesn't bother me. I did like Midnight Club 3 a lot and would like to know how it compares to that game.
Yeah, January had shit for games, but next week is a big week. Over here, anyway.
I did that just to make you mad and help capcom, you love Devil Kings 2 cause you've got some medical condition
I think you have a medical condition, because there is no such game as "Devil Kings 2." ;)
And if you haven't played Basara 2, BEST BE SHOTTIN DE FOCK UP NOW.
-
Seeing how I like it in a week isnt a valid point because while I have no attention span, I still like the games ive stopped playing. My opinions dont change often. It rox or sux 5 minutes in.
Blacklash is for teh forum gamers. Im not here to prove I know games! YEAHRHAHHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WoW
-
I'll be playing tomorrow evening, join up through Cafe De Bore friend list or add me EEL O BRIAN
PS I suck at online games
-
Unlocked a bunch of crap tonight. The upgrade of the Cavalry is badass. Also in this one race I (by accident) took one of the ramps on the double bridge half assed and my car did a fucking roll all the way up to the top level of the bridge and stuck the landing. So badass. I also got the roadster which is OMG handling on everything but the wide turns.
-
there's this bridge/railroad thing leading up into the mountains, i rode all the way up it tonight, thought it would never end, so cool
-
There's a bunch of awesome jumps in the mountains
-
I'm travling now, but I'm really looking forward to this when I get home. It seems like more dumb Burnout fun. And given that I skipped the last 3 or 4 iterations of the series, I'm up for it.
-
So far its pretty easy I think, i've lost one even so far and takedowns are as easy as they were in legends, we'll see if this chanes are car classes improve
-
i think my only big complaint is the unskippable intro/tutorial -- after it gets goin', it actually DOES flow pretty well. world design a+++ would drive again
-
Yeah but it kinda needs to be there cause you wouldnt know about gas stations or stuff, plus you can turn later tutorial inserts off
-
I LIKE BURNOUT PARADISE
-
distant, can you remap the controls on the ps3 version? i can't race without using the sticks
-
distant, can you remap the controls on the ps3 version? i can't race without using the sticks
Let me see. I don't know what you mean about the sticks though, cause that's what you use...
-
im close to license B woo. The higher class cars are makin the events a bit hard, that or I was groggy this morning
-
distant, can you remap the controls on the ps3 version? i can't race without using the sticks
Let me see. I don't know what you mean about the sticks though, cause that's what you use...
i thought you could only accelerate and brake with the triggers

Yeah, that's how it works.
I've never heard anyone using the stick for acceleration/brakes. That's interesting.
-
i always use the right stick accelerating and breaking.
so you can't remap the controls? :(
-

I never checked. I'll look when I get home from work today (3 hours or so).
-
Im 4 wins from Grade B license wooooo
-
I've got the burnout license. :D
-
wow nice!
-
After a week, my biggest complaint is still NO DRIVERS IN CARS. And that's not that big of a complaint. I'm not MAF, so I can't pretend that all of these vehicles are relatives of Knight Rider. I don't need to be seeing people journeying through the windshield or anything, but there are NO PEOPLE in the world! NONE. ALL MACHINES.
-
That's a complaint? There's never been...
-
That's a complaint? There's never been...
More like nitpick. It's not like it's taking anything away from the game. It's just a visual nitpick. I don't like vehicles driving themselves. Reminds me of that hideous Transformers movie.
-
Crackdown still rules.
-
I knew the internets would turn around on this game after the bashing the demo took. I learned with Burnout 3 to NEVER DOUBT CRITERION. These dudes are smart, and they don't make bad games. I think each version of Burnout has improved on the one before it.
Even I had some lukewarm feelings about the demo at first. I was sort of confused about it all. But then I began realizing just how fun the driving model is in the game. The physics just feel right on the cars, and landing jumps and barrel rolls is just too damn awesome. Then you really start getting good at it, and the fun just keeps going. Then you're trying to land barrel rolls and flat spins off of any old thing you can find. It's truly a breakthrough in car control and game design. Brilliant.
So I've had the actual game now for more than a week, and I can't say my love for it has diminished at all. I was able to pick up the PS3 version a couple days early last week, and I wanted it on that machine because it was the lead platform. So I've already logged about 35 hours on that version.
But, over the weekend I had a few friends on the 360 buy it on that system, and I began feeling this annoying itch to buy it again. So I did. Yeah, I'm insane. >:(
Anyway, now I can play it will all of my online buddies, and all is well. For those wanting a serious comparison of the two versions of the game. The PS3 version just flat out runs better overall. The engine just seems a touch more refined on that machine, and it runs without a hitch 99.99% of the time. Only during the most chaotic of crashes have I even sniffed a hint of slowdown. I'm talking crashes with like 6 cars exploding into choas in front of me at 200mph.
On the 360 the game does run really good overall. Certainly not a big downgrade from the PS3 version. It just has these random moments where the game engine will just going into a split second slow-mo and then resume instantly. It's kinda weird and it happens in a few places in the city without fail. But like I said, the game still runs very well overall. You're just gonna see an occasional moment of "wha?". Also, there seem to be a few other oddidites on the 360 version. Sometimes the camera will get a little bit wonky for just a moment, and bob up and down or something. Real brief and not a big deal. Also, after a race somtemes the camera will get a little out of position sometimes. Again, minor, but it doesn't seem to happen on the PS3 version so I'm mentioning it here.
So there you have it. :) I've put int around 45 hours total on both versions. :hyper
-
Criterion :bow
omg this game is SO GOOD
-
Sony Bettenhausen told me to buy this on PS3
-
I guess I'll buy it when Best Buy has it on sale for $40 in a month or two. I will eat my crow then.

Your posts crash and burn like the Hindenburg. Dominator wasn't developed by Criterion you douche. No real fans consider it part of the franchise.
Tiger full o shiiit
I really hope you think you're funny, because if you're being serious when you post stuff like that, I have no idea why you even waste your time.
