Title: My life is turning into a Mary Worth comic (cute dog inside, adoption questions)

So a coworker found an abandoned Chinese Crested out in the rain shivering two nights ago.

He looks kinda like this (no camera at work):

He had a red shirt on and a fake cheeseburger crystal collar. He was SUPER skinny, so it looks like he's been lost for a while. No tags, no tattoos, no microchip (he's been taken to the vet). He's clearly a purebred which makes his lack of ID totally puzzling.

They're looking for the owner right now, but if they can't find him they will take him to the shelter where he'll probably be gassed. :(

I kind of want to adopt him but I'm worried when/if they find the owner my heart will be torn asunder. JUST LIKE MARY WORTH AND CHESTER. I've also never owned a dog on my own (only with my family) and am worried about the cost/difficulty of boarding when I'm on trips, etc. Though I guess that's just life and you learn to kennel or something.

Should I adopt this dog??? WHAT SHOULD I DOOOOOooooo

pets are fantastic, but cats are way easier to deal with if you are a busy person or travel. They are more than content to spend their day doing mostly nothing if you're not around and all you really need is a decent petsitter to visit and feed them and clean out the litter box every day.

I am more allergic to cats (I get a really severe asthmatic reaction if I am around them for too long), but dogs make my eyes water and itch and make me break out.  Zyrtec helps a little, but not enough to own one.

Adult onset allergies suck the ass.  I love dogs and cats, and always had some growing up.

he was just taken away from me to go play with the UI programmers :'(

we cut his mangy bangs off and though he looks a little awkwardly shorn, he's WAY happier now that he can see again.

I'm torn--on the one hand, he's adorable and tiny and I love dogs. On the other, single-living x pet-ownership = super difficulty, especially for someone like me who's only home 3-4 hours a day when he's IN town and not crunching.

Also, cat's are easier to take care of if you can't commit enough time to walk the dog and what not.
