I can't fucking wait until I start gettin paid again. I haven't gotten a check in over a month. In a couple of weeks, I'll be getting the second biggest check of my life (~$475). The biggest was last semester's (A little over $550). These are just loan refund checks, one-offs. I usually get paid $250-300 every two weeks.

today i bought the latest issue of cinema retro (i think ichi would enjoy this magazine), and the latest issue of scary monsters magazine, because it has a large article on The House on Haunted Hill, which is one of the few castle films i've seen.

i also picked up Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death.  A friend of mine said it's really crotchety old man "why don't them kids get off my lawn and read a book" while also being a dumbing down of mcluhan

I played the first three levels during lunch.  I have a feeling it's going to be way too easy, especially with no hard mode.  And no war room.  *sigh*  At least they refocused the game a little.  The dual strike system was distinguished mentally-challenged.

What kind of cookware  :hyper :hyper :hyper

I must know as well, prole.  I've got All-Clads.  They are pricey, but will last you more than a lifetime.  I didn't buy a set.  I'm buying them little by little.

I was interested in that book.  So he's just a bitter old man.

well not really

he does have an intersting message but it's not original nor is it presented well

he slags off TV while holding books to this higher virtue by stance that they're not television and as such are concerned with looks rather than ideas, while so far ignorning the fact that image based media can present ideas just as well, a notion explored by well, every artist ever.

This shit was old in the aftermath of world war one when the concept was repackaged by dadaists.

here's what i wrote on it for GAF.

Quote
I was in the mood for something radically different from all the science fiction I had been reading recently so I picked up Amusing Ourselves to Death.

This book is not worth my time. If you've never thought about media or the business of television before, then this will probably come as huge shocking revelations, but really it's a rehash of earlier stuff (the guy was a STUDENT of Mcluhan for god's sake).

I had picked up the 20th anniversary edition and the introduction alone was fuck awful. They should have gotten someone OTHER than his SON to write the introduction to give us a bit of history and contextualization.

I made it to page 15 and seriously wish I could get my money back. Because not only is it old hat about the fragmentation of dissimulated (mass) media and the refraction of messages, but it's also written with a huge streak of "GET OFF MY LAWN YOU CRAZY KIDS! GO READ A BOOK."

His message is sound, but his tone is horrible. I wish i had brought the book to work so i could pick out sentences which are asinine.

I seriously have not had a book anger me this much since The DaVinci Code and I don't even WATCH TV. You'd think this book would be aimed squarely at me.

If you've never thought about comminication or television, this may be worth your time but only as a jumping off point to more worthwhile books, but if you don't fit into that demographic, this is crap written poorly.

My mass effect came and instead of getting a 1400 point card I was given a 2800 point card.  So 2800 points and mass effect for 50 fucking bucks.

God loves me because I'm the only heathen here reading the bible.  How many points did you get on your point card Malek!?  How many points!
