It's not like there's going to be another one.
-
For the card minigames of course
like the one in ff9
-
lolz u should write editorial for egm
-
I wanted to do this thread, even halfwrote an OP resembling the original thread, but figured it would be lame
-
As a parody thread, it's job is complete
-
FF9 card game > FF8 card game
-
Oh thats BULLSHIT
-
I keep meaning to do a post proving this, but I've been too lazy thus far, and will probably continue to be too lazy for the foreseeable future.
but yes, it is an objective fact.

Why would anyone buy multiple copies of Advent Rising? A sequel is going to rise from the ages inevitably anyway
-
trying to explain to people that don't like the mini games from ff games that they are missing out on the greatest thing ever is like holding down a child and shoving pieces of orange in his mouth, screaming "IT'S GOOD FOR YOU EAT IT EAT IT!"
i'm not saying that's it's a bad thing to do, it's just not effective.

There needs to be more theoretical writing on the purposes of mini-games in larger games. Current understanding is pretty weak and creates openings for opportunistic demagogues like Drinky.

as far as i'm concerned mini-games are the epidomy of skinner's variable reinforcement theory that create an unstoppable addiction to the rpgs and make them last longer as well as inadvertantly selling future sequels. that being said, i feel that it was unintentional and that there are no shrinks developing these things to sell more games, but stumbling upon this idea they have made a valuable discovery for themselves.

I have to admit that the chocobo digging minigame in FF9 is somehow addictive, but it's so blatantly vapid that even my weak will is enough to stop me from spending the thousand or so hours with it necessary to find all the treasures. Too bad, because the hidden treasure sidequest itself is a pretty cool idea.
the card game is great though.
