My RAZR is dying and I need a new handset and everything looks like some kind of balloony fetish object crossed with Windows Mobile and WHY CAN'T I JUST GET A GODDAMN FLIP PHONE THAT'S GODDAMN AWESOME
if you have any suggestions for a US cell phone model that won't make me want to kill myself it's appreciated

You could just bite the bullet and get a bar phone of some kind. Nobody likes flip phones anymore. ;D

Fuck that noise, my Ocean has that shit already integrated into the handset. No connecting to a website in a crappy phone browser. Plus, free GPS with Google Maps (that has saved my ass on multiple occasions!) and full YouTube.

It is an awesome phone.

I got a black razor from AT&T and it's awesome. It's black and sleek... :-* and STRONG! :o

Eh, I can't do RAZRs anymore after the Ocean. The Helio FIN is pretty small for a flip phone too:
It’s really thin (11.4mm), has a 3 megapixel camera, 2.3″ 240×320 display, stereo bluetooth and support for microSD cards up to 4GB in size (you get a 2GB in the box). You also get the same messaging suite and full HTML browser as the Ocean.
Helio is also announcing a new GPS nav app from Garmin for the Fin and Ocean. Also, you can now add your own RSS feeds to HOT.

I like that and the WM6-enabled Ocean knockoff that Pantech makes for AT&T. The new Ocean or unnamed Helio smartphone is apparently going to be Windows Mobile enabled, so I might spring for that if it keeps the dual-slider or similar design.

ok that's pretty sex

TVC, what is that?
also, what about the Helio Mysto? I like the form factor on that one slightly better than the ocean. I actually prefer 10-key typing to tiny QWERTY. Blame Japan.
-
It's an HTC 8525. There's basically a similar, but slightly different model for the each of the major carriers. I believe this is the newest version:

The Mysto has been getting rave reviews from the Helio community and its design is pretty great. Plus, Helio has rolled out some new software just in time for the device's launch (PC Sync, Helio Player, etc.). It's probably the only piece of hardware they've launched since the Ocean that the community has really liked.
-
The mysto is a slick looking phone.
-
I think I'm gonna get a Mysto! It is what I'm looking for -- a powerful phone, not a PDA replacement.
now I just have to figure out what to do with my existing carrier plan--I think I have a month or so left, but if cancellation charges are sliding (or non-existent) then I'll make the jump ASAP
thanks for talking me off the ledge, Evilbore!
-
Yeah, a few of the Ocean folks have actually made the jump to Mysto due to some frustrations with the Ocean software. Helio has kind of dropped the ball on some nagging Ocean features (MP3 playlists and album art are still not fixed, PC Link has not been rolled out for the Ocean and data/contact management is totally reliant on third-party stuff), because the word is that SK Telecom and Pantech are working on a new and improved, Windows Mobile-enabled model. And thus, why bother working on stuff for their current model running on an outdated OS (oh, I dunno, because it's the only reason you have any subscribers!).
The Mysto has very few bugs and PC Link Pro out of the gate (the ability to sync calendar and contact information), and runs smoother than the Ocean. Plus, its MicroSD slot supports up to 4GB and the Ocean supports just 2GB.
-
Patel, when you get the Mysto, let me know and I'll link you to a site that'll download Opera Mini straight to your device. I find it to be a far superior browser than the default one.

UGH
I am trapped until April 4 or there's a $175 cancellation fee
fuck you AT&T, that shit should be prorated
now I want to die again
:-\
-
why do you people need all that shit

why do you people need all that shit
I use Word all the time on my phone, and web browsing comes in handy. Also, IMs. Good calendar functions (it syncs up to outlook). It's really like, the ideal PDA. Good for transporting things between machines that aren't directly networked. I've used the video taking function to great benefit, too.
