Title: New admissions procedures, for those recommending us to friends and whatnot
Post by: The Fake Shemp on February 04, 2008, 05:10:36 AM
Section I: Registration Terms and Membership

As of February 3, 2008, Registration using a free email account (such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail) is prohibited.

Registration requires the use of an e-mail address provided by your ISP, educational institution, company, personally-owned web domain, or other non-free source.

All new accounts require e-mail activation before they can be used. Accounts registered using a free e-mail provider will be denied without explanation.

....

On a semi-related note, lyte edge is now a global moderator as of today.  He will no longer be just in charge of the Gaming Forum.

What if we PM you and give a seal of approval that we know it's him?

ex: one of Groo/dcharlie/ShoNuff/J-squad's friends

I'd say slash her but we know nobody knows any chicks

If it's someone that a person vested in the community can vouch for, then we can probably admit him/her.  I've done that on a couple of occasions already when a newly registered member in the queue looked a bit dicey.

can we email/pm you that a certain person isn't a joke character or something?  people are probably just more comfortable giving a regular email address rather than something they check twice a month so if a person just finds this site, they should follow that rule but this is a small enough forum that somebody bringing a buddy along won't make a big problem.

I can see the problem with a person who joined with a normal email address and an invite trying to invite somebody else and there being a fight over whether he could do that.  It'd be a war of the normals.  Exactly what synbios wanted.

Has there been some kind of problem here that I haven't noticed? Why tighten up?

Dude, what the fuck are you talking about.

:rofl

Hmm, not really sure I like this but I understand.  My brother has had some trouble signing up to GAF because he originally applied with his hotmail account.  Even after changing his email to our ISP and after I contacted evillore, he still hasn't gotten approved despite him signing up nearly a year ago.

This is a good thing.

Maybe I'll give him my account LOL

Boy am I happy I registered when I did. I'm surprised EB kept my account, I registered back when the forums had that orange/grey color scheme.

Thanks guys, but I don't look at being a moderator as moving up the forum social ladder or anything.  I'm just going to stop shit like "it" from coming back and spamming the forum with garbage when the others are asleep.  Just like I did in the gaming forum.  Things run pretty smoothly here so there's really no need for much moderation.  Hopefully it stays that way!

Woo, three cheers for Lytey (buy a MacBook to celebrate and stop quizzing those lowly know-nothings at gaf).

I got my PC running smoothly again, and now I'm waiting to see what the new Macbook Pros about to revealed are going to offer.

Edit: If you ban someone you should say "your days are over mister!"  :lol

just wanted to pop in and say that this is being implemented on a temporary basis. as a lot of you know, we've been having a lot of problems with banned members like synbios using proxies to register new/duplicate accounts for the sole purpose of causing trouble.

it is very hard for us to check if every ip happens to be a proxy. even though we have busted this a few times, determined people can still slip through.

this is only an added measure to combat that problem -- it is not intended to alienate anyone or to make us seem "elite." the simple fact of the matter is that anyone on the planet has access to hotmail/yahoo/gmail and can use it to make a fake account with a proxy.

I like the open registration system on here.  But measures must be taken.  I registered with GAF at the same time as this forum and my account is still in limbo.  The funny thing I referred people to gaf and their accounts have already been approved, way after I originally signed up.  Go figure.

This place is a lot smaller - if someone honestly has a friend that they can vouch for in the queue and that person is in good standing with the community, I don't mind pressing accept.  I did it for Genghis Cohen like a week ago.

Synbios sneaked back in again a few days back and started posting porn/nsfw stuff again.

Good thing I never want any of my real-life friends to ever see this place.

And Wasabi did the same thing for me a few months back over at GAF, Willco.

I was thinking of inviting my best friend over but I dunno if he'd fit in.  I don't want you dudes making fun of him just because's he's a goth and found his current girlfriend at vampirefreaks.com. :(

If you don't want to get made fun of then maybe you and him should get off the internet

Eh...he has a medical condition.  If you hit him too hard, he could die.

i think that's the same for everyone ! ;)

No, seriously, if you punch him in the stomach, he will die.  He couldn't participate in gym class too much because of it.

He's a good guy, I just wish he wasn't so much into the goth scene. :/
