Title: I had my first bout with prejudice today and it opened my eyes...
Post by: Mupepe on February 04, 2008, 11:31:03 AM
So here I am in my office listening to Aventura when a friend calls on the phone.  I'm talking to her and all of a sudden she's like "Wait, is that bachata??" and I say yes.  And she says "Oh my god, that's sad."  I'm all confused.  And she goes on to tell me only poor and trashy people listen to it.

I told her I didn't deal with racists and to shove the phone up her tight ass and then I slammed the phone down so hard it broke the receiver (ok, not really.  I told her that Marc Anthony is the most offensive thing to my ears since J Lo)

:'( :'(  Himuro's still a dirty poor

Edit: pulled a Father Mike there for a minute :-*

God I hate Mondays.

And here's the skinny, my friend said that my choice of music is music for trashy poor hispanics because it originated from Dominican servants.  And from a quick search via wikipedia, that seems to be the sentiment among a lot of hispanics

pretty much.  If anything bad is going to happen throughout the week, it's pretty much guaranteed to happen on Monday.

At least I managed to make it to work late and still get me some breakfast.  Mmmm

Fuck, today sucks.  Who am I kidding?

Oh shit!  I'm so sorry.  I started collecting songs to upload for you, so you could just download them.

Here, I'll list some quick recommendations...

Ray Baretto - One of the first pioneers of Salsa music.  Check out Rhythm of Life, Prestame Tu Mujer, Oye la Noticia and Soul Drummer from him.

Eddie Palmieri - Again, one of the first pioneers.  (These guys started salsa music for the States pretty much).  Check out Traguito, You're Gonna Hear From Me and Melao Para El Sapo.

You said, you checked out Colon already, so I'll leave him out.

Ruben Blades was influential as hell throughout the 70's and 80's.  Check out Maleta, Cabeza de Hacha, Ojos and Tu Me Accostumbraste.

Some people like the shift towards melody and romantic lyrics made in the 80's, if you do, check out the whole Noches Calientes album by Jose Alberto.

Also from the 80's anything by Grupo Gran Combo (the video I showed you the other night).  '

I think salsa peaked in the 80's  After that, it became way too influenced by hip hop and pop.  And then you had "salsa" by marc anthony and the like.  Ugh.

I'm not too much into it.  I'm of Dominican heritage and my stepfather would blast bachata everyday afterschool.  He made me sick off it.

hahaha

I can see that.  Maybe that's why I hate most Mexican soft rock, but love English soft rock.  I listened to sooooooo much of it because of my mom.

I love me some bachata though :heartbeat

I revealed my latent racism yesterday and spoiled my chances with a very cute black girl.

Mondays are great.  The coffeeshop down the street is open later than on any other day so I don't have to spend an hour walking to Delmar.

Yeah.  I was kind of taken aback.  Not really offended.  I guess I shouldn't have been though.  A lot of South Americans hate each other.  El Salvadorians hate Colombians and vice versa.  Mexicans hate El Salvadorians.  It's ridiculous.

Edit: And I'm just generalizing.  Of course not all of them do.  But many, many of them do.

Naw, latinos are just jealous 'cuz Ricans are Americans and thus better than all of South America combined.
