Title: The Adventure Company
Post by: rodi on February 05, 2008, 07:40:01 AM
Does anyone else worship them as much as me? I constantly day dream about being one of their employee's making random games about fabulous exciting adventures. (Such as the great Oregon Trail series and so on so on so on you know)  :)

Maybe you can fix the action elements in their games. They always seem broken.

Adventure Gaming is down the shitter

I respect them greatly for keeping a small but wonderful genre alive.
Since you like them so much, what are the best games they've published?  I've only got a few of them, but I very much do like the Adventure genre.
And demi is just joking, I know you recommended Scratches in another thread.

The Adventure Company is cool in my book for keeping adventure gaming alive, but their output is pretty hit or miss since they'll apparently release anything they can get their hands on.

Scratches has nothing to do with The Adventure Company - surprised that it's actually a GOOD game? I am.

I played "Keepsake" from them and it was one of the worst games I had ever played.

Honestly, pretty much the only game I really really love is Oregon Trail. I've played Next Life by them and it has a lot of flaws control wise. But plot wise its still pretty cool.

Please go play Scratches

Also Oregon Trail is like... not an adventure game

Demi's right, Scratches is awesome. It's one of the better adventure games I've played in years, if not the best.

I have a big huge stack of adventure games I'm never gonna play, if you you want 'em.

I did not know such a thing existed!  On a scale of Great Old Ones, how does it rank?

I still haven't beaten it yet, but what I played of it was decent but not great. Good atmosphere, decent story. Puzzles are hit and miss. A lot of pixel hunting, and you're occasionally required to make leaps of logic that would impress Holmes himself. Too much empty space. Some lame-o stealth sequences.

I'd give it a Yog-Sothoth out a Nyarlathotep.

Gamespot really liked it, but that may have been because the publisher dangled a fiver in front the reviewer.

You can't order me around.

I haven't heard a lot about Myst. Isn't that an adventure genre game? And how's that wild western game on T234's list?

Let me rephrase: Is it a good game?
Title: Re: The Adventure Company

By today's standards not really. You can beat Myst (get the best ending) the minute you start it, no joke.

huh?  How's that work?  Don't you need to...

And one of my greatest gaming accomplishments was beating Myst and seeing all four endings without looking up a single answer to any of the puzzles.  I was so proud of myself that well over a decade later I felt the need to boast about on a message board.

I heard a lot of great buzz before playing it but I'm not really seeing it. Like Joe said, kind of clunky and illogical at times, and while the atmosphere is good the writing is somewhat lacking.

It's clunky for sure, but you're writing barometer has been spoiled by too much IF!

Just pull out the book that reveals Atrus' area, then solve the "square" puzzle and voila, the Atrus white page and book

If you really want to play Myst, at least the first three are on GameTap including Uru and RealMyst, the 3D remake of Myst that sells for like a freaking HUNDRED DOLLARS on Ebay (or at least it used it). You get all of that plus Sam & Max Season 1 & 2, Lost Express, Zork: Grand Inquisitor, and probably some more adventure games that I can't think of.

my favourites were the 'funny' Lucasarts games:

Day of the Tentacle
Sam & Max
Full Throttle

and The Dig was cool too

and I freaking love the Space Quest series, finished them all (I completed 2,3,4 and 6 with absolutely no help from faqs  ;))

It's pretty cool, but you have to pay a monthly fee to get access to all of their games (there are some that you can play for free). I paid for it for several months, but I wasn't using it too much, so I eventually canceled it.
