The big one for me has to be Super Metroid. Before Metroid Prime came out, I wanted to play its legendary predecessor. One of my friends had also absolutely loved it growing up and was pissed when he heard MP would be 3D. Anyhow, it fucking rocked my balls off. The atmosphere, the boss battles, the powerups, the music...it was all so amazing. And it had to be about 7 years after the game originally came out and it still was awe-inspiring. That is the definition of a classic game.

good topic Juice.
Skies of Arcadia I guess you can say because it was first on the dreamcast and I never played it ;p. Also Turtles 3 I never even knew that had that game on NES :o I played it and it turned out pretty awesome.

Zelda: Link's Awakening
Despite the black/white graphics, the game remains a classic, in part because it gave birth to many Zelda gameplay standards. Link's Awakening introduced the ability to assign different weapons to different buttons. This made gameplay more streamlined. Plus the game features the best music in the Zelda franchise IMO
Contra (SNES)
Contra is just the perfect game. Huge enemies, unlimited ammo, and dangerous levels. Lost Planet reminds me of Contra sooo much

Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, FF7, Zelda LTTP, Megaman X 1-3.
Much more...

PD, do you mean Contra (NES) or Contra III (SNES)

Yeah, Contra III (Alien Wars). The NES one is great too though

I've never played that. Maddox highly recommends it, so it probably rocks. He liked Ikaruga too. I completely suck at Contra: Hard Corps on Genesis though. I think I just suck at hard 2D games I think. I LOVE Metal Slug though. I guess that counts, too. I am so getting the Metal Slug Anthology for PS2 since I'm not getting a Wii or PSP anytime soon.

Ikaruga is bleeding hand from crushing the gamecube controller into splintering pieces hard.

Yea, it is, but it doesn't piss me off as much as in hard old-school games because you just keep on going. Especially once you earn infinite continues. :lol I think I beat the game on easy using only one continue once.
