Great cast of characters
Awesome armor system
Really unique character customization system, albeit, flawed
HAMAUZU MUSIC
awesome mix of pre-rendered bgs and real time graphics

Just awesome. Why this game get so much hate? It's my second favorite Final Fantasy. :(

I wish I had the time to replay it now but LOST ODYSSEY comes out in 4 days! but since LO reminds me so much of FFX, I decided to pop it in and I just feel right at home :heartbeat

FF9 though....pure awesome. I'm playing though it again right now and I forgot just how big of a game it was. So much stuff to do.

wtf why do limit breaks happen right when the bar fills up why can't i save them for later
takes 40 seconds to do a command after i issue it
game rips off the entire series and doesn't come off as one unique entity on its own
weakest psx ff soundtrack, and the start of uematsu getting stale

still one of the best jrpgs evar but i just think that ff7 and ff8 have more to it.

on the other hand, ff9 has the best first half of any ff. first disc was omg.

it also has the best ff character: vivi
best side quests in the series, next to ff6 and ff7

OGGLOPS AND PICKLES

FFIX was the first game that really really got me addicted to rpgs. I played 70-80 hours of that game and beat it within a month after release. so amazing. :bow

I let people run wild with FFIX (it's not my favorite, but it's okay) because I can definitely see where they are coming from, but FFIX is Uematsu's weakest effort in a long time. The dude just cannot arrange. There are a few standout tracks--You're Not Alone, Vamo Allo Flamenco-- but it's suuuuch a mediocre, mailed in offering.

And I guess I can see why. He didn't have a lot of time, and IMO he's totally sucked ass at arranging in the modern era. His sampling comes from an 80s keyboard I'm sure of it.

Post by: Smooth Groove on February 10, 2008, 10:42:35 PM: FFX didn't do much that was new but I still enjoyed it. It and FF7 are the only 2 FF games that I've ever beaten. The main character and story seemed to be even fruitier than usual but I warmed up to both elements by the end of the game. I guess I mostly liked FF because of its presentation. The cutscenes were even more amazing than before and the gameplay graphics were a huge step-up from the previous 3d FFs. In terms of gameplay, it was just more of what one would expect from a FF title. As usual, the boss battles and magic were fun while the side quests/random encounters were annoying. It was a fun game to play through once but I won't ever do it again.

The FAQ is useless to me cause it calls for all these incredible armors that I just flat out can't get now. Unless Rikku can still some shit to make Deathproof armors, I'm stuck.

when she zombifies you, leave your guys zombified. the attack she uses later in the battle hurts normal characters, but the zombie characters don't get hurt at all

edit: and make sure to throw hastega on your chars before you use reflect too

i think i need to go back and play it too. it's been getting a lot of love from evilbore and i don't remember much of the game so the only way would be....

...but lost odyssey first.

He's said he had more time on FF9 than any other soundtrack he's done, though. (11 months on FF9 vs. 6-8 months on most of the others.) I'm not sure there are so many fewer good tracks than other soundtracks, although the CDs aren't really listenable straight through because of things like having three versions of the already repetitive Burmecia/Freya theme.
