That would be pretty awesome.
-
I'm more worried about Deliverance. Horny homosexual hillbillies are vastly more frightening than kids possessed by some dumb pagan god.
-
Yes, but Deliverance probably occurs on a semi-monthly basis!
Children of the Corn is frightening because your kids are going to kill you, Drinky! Kill you!
-
I'd rather they kill me than make me squeal like a pig!
Also, KID. Not plural. Evilbore Exclusivo: i'm getting my sperm tube thingies tied or clipped or whatever next month!
-
Wasn't there some monster that came out of the rows too?
-
I saw The Prestige last night.
-
was it good/bad or were you too baked to remember
-
speaking of drunk and baked, time to celebrate a lack of kansas in my life!
-
Why no more kids?
-
It was pretty bad, the preview made it out to be totally different than it really was. I wasn't baked but I was still tripping a little from the night before.
-
Why no more kids?
It's shocking that a white liberal had a child at all!

Did you have any hallucinations of being raped with a corn cob?
-
Willco, me and the wife love our cute little brat dearly, but we don't actually LIKE being parents
we're selfish spoilt upper-middle class white folks
also what malek said
-
I think the only thing that bothers me in Children of the Corn is that Linda Hamilton is supposed to be dating this hot doctor guy? Haha, yeah right!
-
Are you going to tell your daughter that after you guys had her, you realized you wanted no more? :P
-
I would date he who walks behind the rows.
-
yes!
we'll say "we got it right the first time lolz" and then i'll push her back in the prayer closet
-

:lol
yes!
we'll say "we got it right the first time lolz" and then i'll push her back in the prayer closet
What don't you exactly like about being a parental unit?

More like a parental eunuch.

exactly what i indicated -- we're selfish. we adore our free time. posting is one of the few things i can do while watching her -- my gaming time has been effectively reduced to a tiny fraction of what it was, and there's no more chillin' at the bar or going to movies or hanging out with random friends what don't come to our pad and put up with Sian themselves.
she has her charms -- just a half-hour ago i was playing Frequency and she was dancing along to the Lo-Fidelity All-Stars song and when the "OH! AH!" sample track came on she'd yell "OH! DOLPHINS!" in time with it. it was really adorable, although i'm sure MAF and TVC rolled their eyes when i IM'd them with the details. :)
still, i sorely miss having control of my own life and my free time. sorely. my wife feels similarly. we don't regret having her, but we also decided we didn't want to pay the price again.

crying doesnt bother me, im sure ill adapt to losing sleep just fine, and i dont see them as an annoyance. They really aren't that high maitenence imo
-
crying and losing sleep are nothing. it's never bothered me either.
the point is you simply don't leave the house much, and you have to keep an eye on them constantly. constantly. you have no idea.
-
In the time you just used to post and not monitor your child, your daughter has joined a biker gang and gotten pregnant. Nice job, Drinky!
-
she was shouting OCTOPUS HAS NO BONES!!!!! over and over and was thus easy to track if she decided to bumrush the cat :(
-
this thread isn't fun anymore
-
make it fun then you silly bint

blackACID is preggers.
-
she's BUTT-preggers
-
blackACID is preggers.
But who is the daddy?
Maury Povich can create dozens of episodes trying to find out!
-
I refuse to be tested and cite whatever amendment lets me do so.
-
that would be the 69th amendment which also says "let he who is named will federman eat out drinky crow's dirty viking butthole thrice monthly before an audience of erotic clowns"
-
I don't get the clowns part.
-
you won't...yet
:-*
-
What variety of clowns are we talking 'bout? The Bozo variety, the John Wayne Gacy variety or the Killer Klowns from Outer Space kind?
-
blackACID is preggers.
Don't you think her womb is too polluted by years of drug use for that to be true?
-
Her baby will look like a hybrid of Cheech and Chong when it surfaces from her nether regions.

I appreciate Drinky's sincere input on parenting, since most parents I know can't be so brutally honest with themselves to be able to admit that having kids isn't the omg beautiful amazing revelation miracle change-your-life-and-give-it-meaning event that most people see it as. It's a huge sacrifice. Huge huge huge. Emotionally, physically, financially, time-wise. Just think about it.
It's a selfless thing to do, for sure, but man, you have to think about what sort of a commitment you're really willing to make. I admire anyone who can be totally honest with themselves and analyze their situation and feelings and then decide whether or not to have kids/more kids.
Too many people have kids nowadays "just to have them." I've seen it happen to my relatives and it never turns out. My cousin Jenny wanted to have 4 kids, it was just a "goal" she had. I asked her why, and she said "Because I like kids and I want a family." Ehhh, okay, but maybe not such a good reason. Well, she had her 4 kids and is unable to support them financially -- now she's on welfare. She constantly cries that she has zero free time. Whatever happened to logical family planning, Jen? :(
-
There's a lot of social pressure on parents, especially moms, to treat parenthood as a super-miracle and not admit that the sacrifices they make are actually a pain. It's also weird how much some people underestimate the amount of labor involved.
If you said "Dude, Drinky Crow just got in a car accident and suffered head trauma. He's no longer capable of taking care of himself. Could you prepare all his meals, dress him, change his Depends, arrange entertainment when he gets bored, and make sure you or someone you know is literally watching him every second he's awake?" nobody would jump at that. Just because someone's tiny and easy to manhandle doesn't make it any less demanding.
cloudwalking, what's the deal with girls who make kids a major life goal when they're in their teens? Is it crazy social conditioning or crazy estrogen overload?
-
It sounds like couldwalking has an especially fucked up family.
-
Mandark and cloudwalking would have kids, and then tell them what a pain in the ass they are.

I don't know what it is anymore, I just find that there's too many people nowadays who just follow that stereotypical plan because it's what's "expected": Finish school, find a man, get married, pop out 2.5 kids, raise them, die. It doesn't seem to matter that much if it's what you really want.
And yeah, there's a lot of social pressure. People often react negatively to people who are honest about how demanding being a parent is and how it may have changed their life for the worse in some aspects. And especially to people who say they flat-out don't want kids. They just assume you're some kid-hating monster.
I still don't know how I am going to tell certain people in my family and my fiance's family that I don't plan on ever wanting to have a child. I know I am going to get a LOT of negative reactions. That can be too much for some people to handle.
And yes, Bacon, my family is pretty screwy, but if anything, it's made me more aware of what works and what doesn't when it comes to families and relationships.

Actually, I would! :lol I do it to my sister's baby when I have to watch her. "Clover, you know you're acting like a total idiot right now" She may only be 7 months old, but I think she should know as soon as possible that her aunt doesn't put up with crap!
-
You're a child hating monster, cloud.
-
Is it crazy social conditioning
Always with the nurture and never with the nature.

I like kids. Almost all the jobs I took when I was younger involved them: babysitter, tutor, camp counselor, etc. But being totally responsible for another human being? Even over a couple days it's exhausting, and that's without all the Imparting of Morals, and making of Important Decisions.
I need some friends and relatives to start breeding, so I can be Cool Uncle Mandark, and start reaping the emotional rewards without all of the toil and fuss and potential heartbreak.
-
I think the degree of dedication and discipline it takes to be a good parent, a truly good parent, is something I'd really like to do one day with the right person.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I don't hate kids. Kids can be really fun, but for some reason most kids don't really seem to like me. I never really know what to say or do with kids... I guess I sorta have a hard time relating to most children because when I was a kid I was always super-mature and trying to act like an adult all of the time.
Some people can just start up a conversation with a kid and talk for hours. After I say "Hi" and "Aren't you cute?" I start running out of things to say.
Another thing I've learned is that you can be the best parent in the world and your child can still turn out down the wrong path. I mean, I just have to look at my family. My sister and I were brought up exactly the same way, and we are like night and day. I mean, any parent will tell you that each of their kids is different -- that's because people just are the way they are. In the end, parenting only plays a small part, you can be the best parent in the world and your child still grows up to be a pedophile or a serial rapist. I know I'd be a good parent. But you can NEVER predict how your kids are going to turn out.
I like just enjoying my relatives' children -- you still feel a strong bond to them, and you can play with them and watch them grow up and be the awesome aunt/uncle they totally love -- but at the end of the day, you still get to go home and do what you want.
-
Most pedophiles and serial killers are a byproduct of bad parenting, though.

While this may be true, I still feel like it's a gamble. And I do blame it mostly on my family situation.
I'm sorry, but I just can't help but scratch my head and wonder: how did I manage to homeschool myself through HS so that I would graduate 2 years early, take my extra time earned from that working my way up the retail ladder to a management position (at age 19!), find an amazing man who is loving, intelligent and hard-working, travel the world with my money saved, move to a new state... while my sister dropped out of school, never had a job, had 2 boyfriend who were both drug dealers, is still battling a methamphetamine addiction, had a child at age 16, has done jail time...
I could go on and on. We were both raised the same way. But we made these decisions ourselves, parenting had little to do with it.
-
My family situation went catshit bonkers when I was 9, the period between that and me leaving home was a lot of me deciding stuff and not parents.
-
And that's why MAF is a serial killer.
-
I vacillate between being a judgmental snob and empathizing with parents. Parents have a ton of influence on their kids' lives, but there's just as much that's out of their control. I can't get on a soapbox and rant about how big a deal parenting is, then turn around and say "What I would have done there..."
Funny that kids don't like you, though. I always seem to hit it off right away with them. I wonder why that would be...
Ah yes, I think I have it. (http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn6355)

A child doesnt need parents, they need role models.
Aside from my mom, the people I lived with half of my childhood were fucking jerks. Be it through Television, books, radio, friends, I decided what I felt was right and what I admired on my own, I also learned what I didnt want to be.
Parents just are in a prime position to serve as role models.
Mandark: I totally cut half my family off, I havent talked to my dad in like 2 years lol. Said two words to my sister, bleh whatever. Im way up here in FUN CONTROL OF MY LIFE Washington.

Hey, Willco called you a serial killer, not me. Sure you're not talking to him?
-
Im just randomly throwing responses out at this point.
-
MAF has a taste for the blood of derelicts and Mandark tries to point fingers at me. Niiiiice.
-
Im just saying its usually the people with NICE PARENTS WHO SAY PARENTS ARE IMPORTANT
:'(
-
I think MAF is implying that all Jews look alike over the internet.
-
I felt bad the other day when I demonstrated 'jewish hand wringing' to Drinky and TVC
-
No kids for me, ever. By the time I'm an old man I'll have cloned a younger version of myself to carry on my vast legacy! :tophat
