May 2009. Frontloaded trainwreck confirmed. :lol
-
"The film will simply be called Star Trek and will be released on December 26, 2008 in Ireland and the United Kingdom, and May 8, 2009 in the United States."
WTF? What's with the dates?
-
what the fuck :lol
-
that's a shame
i was looking forward to this

Foriegn markets don't matter too much, because Paramount is not going to get back their losses from foriegn gross. The film is too expensive to worry about releasing it in December to a lukewarm reception and risk potentially franchise-killing box office returns. This way if it's released in May, even if it's as awful as it seems, Paramount can dump enough marketing into it that the frontloaded ticket sales will make 'em bank.
And that's the bottom line. Mediocre movies do mediocre business during winter. But you can make money off of anything released in MAy for the first weekend if you dump enough marketing into it.

How much longer is Gay Boy banned for?

This is like Clemens/McNamee, but on a message board. Who cares who did what in what specific incident. They're both scum. Good riddance to both.

And PD is acting like a Republican!

I am?
I told Cheebs to lay off the antics/gimmicks unless he had something epic, but he didn't listen. So I guess it's still his fault when all is said and done. But still, it's a shame Synbios got the last laugh

when was cheebs banned? what happened?

star wreck, lol

Star Trek is going to be an epic fail anyways.
Honestly if ANYTHING comes out around then in the summertime, it's going to tank. Did Paramount forget about whenever Nemesis came out and it got beat the first weekend by Maid in fucking Manhattan? And that was in the winter!
The movie's going to suck, and it's going to make no money.

But what with how loud the MPAA shouts that piracy is killing the industry, they have to realize that releasing it in the most important market a half year after it hits the boonies will give pirates time to get pristine copies. So what, are they going to release it in May, and when it bombs after week one say something like "PIRACY KILLED THIS MOVIE!!!!" It's like they are making excuses already.
-
I would say maybe it's being delayed for re-shoots or script re-writes or something (since I hear Abrams was unhappy with the original script and wanted to make changes while he was shooting but couldn't because of the strike), but the fact that it's being released overseas in December but delayed in the US till May makes me think it really is that big of a stinker.

Gay Boy am freaking out :lol
-
Why is this that big of a surprise, though? There hasn't been a good Star Trek movie in years. Even First Contact wasn't THAT GREAT...it was just that it looked better than it actually was when compared to Generations and Insurrection.

Looks like china is caught up in its own Star Trek episode anyway:

China's population is aging rapidly
China's rapidly aging population could wipe out the country's low-cost labor advantage within the next few decades and stifle economic growth, state media said Tuesday.
