Got it at Best Buy tonight for $54.99 and used a leftover Hannukah gift card to cover the purchase.  I'm just waiting for a refurb PS3 to show up in my district or someone to trade in a PS3, and I'm set!

Toshiba bailed out after I went Blu-Ray.  I am pretty much the indicator for politics, economy and videogame industry!

I have on good authority that Toshiba was anxiously awaiting what format I'd back, especially since I sport a jet black Xbox 360 Elite and that HD-DVD drive is cheap.  But I want a winning format that has Evil Dead II, so I opted for Blu-Ray.  Immediately as Best Buy rung up my purchase, a red light went off and a transmission was sent to Toshiba headquarters alerting them of my purchase.  Afterwards, news of the departure from the HD-DVD scene began to leak.  Do the math.

"This week, two key retailers, Best Buy and Netflix Inc., both got off the fence and threw their support behind Blu-ray exclusively, citing widespread studio support and consumer preference."

The war could hardly be more over at this point!

Now go pick up a HDMI cable and a copy of Ratatouille.  Even if you don't like the movie it looks balls out amazing in HD.

I just want Casablanca on blu ray and I'll import Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind from Japan.  The rest I can wait for really.

The Pixar Short Films Collection is pristine as well; amazing considering the age of some of the content.

Wal-Mart is going Blu-ray exclusive, too.

As much as I dislike that company, that should really bring an end to this stupid format war.

Just reading the meltdowns on Engadget HD by these two goons makes me feel good that I waited until a winner was confirmed.  :-*
