price range? How familiar are you with photography? Beginner?
-
I have a Fuji Finepix S700
From what I'm told, It's a great beginner camera and almost unbeatable in it's price range.
between 200 and 250 dollars. Has a lot of features from more advanced cameras so you can get used to it.
Let me find my thread of my shots and show you what kind of pics it can take, and I suck at photography
Sony Cybershot is good I hear too, but I'm not familiar with it.

Those are all on default settings, my first real time actually using it and some of them are using digital zoom. No retouching done either. Straight off the card and resized and uploaded

These two were right after each other and one is using natural light while the other is using portrait colors. Awesome.

Do you want a point and shoot or an SLR?

Canon's Digital Rebel line is the best entry-level SLR. The current model is the XTi:
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Digital-10-1MP-18-55mm-3-5-5-6/dp/B000I1ZWRC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1203208991&sr=8-1
For about 150 dollars less, you can buy the older model, the XT:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007QKN22/sr=8-1/qid=1203208991/ref=pd_cp_e_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1203208991&sr=8-1&pf_rd_p=250314001&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000I1ZWRC&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0PAB006Y30G80Y0E1ZSR
It's the same innards as the XTi. The only improvements the XTi has is a 2 megapixel bump, a self-cleaning function, and a bigger screen. The important parts, like the image sensor and processor, are identical.
In April, the Digital Rebel XSi comes out. It's a bit pricier, but it's a significant bump over the previous two models:
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-Digital-Camera-18-55mm-3-5-5-6/dp/B0012YA85A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1203209178&sr=1-1
It has a sleeker form factor and is made of sturdier materials and better sealed. It has a new image sensor, a substantially better processor, and a couple of features swiped from the higher end models. It's not out yet, but all the previews have been great. The kit lens it comes with is also quite a bit better. It's a lens with image stabilization, which means it compensates for a good amount of camera shake.

Just so Cohen doesn't get confused: Kiss Digital is the Japanese brand name for Digital Rebel. In the UK, they just go by model number (The XT is 350D, the XTi is 400D, and the XTs is 450D).
