I just started Frostwire up and it asks me to forward a port in order to make a connection. What? I used this program for over a year and this never happened to me before. Same with torrents. Who "enabled" the requirement of port forwarding?
-
I believe it has to do with ISPs clamping down on p2p programs.

America hates internet freedom

Mostly comcast. The govt is getting in their face about it tho so we'll see how long that lasts. If anything they'll just amend all their service descriptions lol
-
So port forwarding was invented to use p2p without being noticed by ISP's?
-
invented?
-
I loosely call it that, since it wasn't a requirment before. I just want to know why you must do it now in order to use p2p.

Well that explains why slsk was total ass on my apt. complex's wifi, we're on comcast here. Can't really go see what router their using in order to set up ports. :lol

Lets ask wikipedia and see how I was wrong:

Looks like its more about firewall crap. IN my experience a P2P program will recommend it, but not require it. Azuerus or whatever asks me to do it but will still work without it being done.

Comcast does squelch bandwidth on P2P shit tho, regardless. The govt is after them about it as theyre really the only group doing it.

My utorrent didn't work 97% of the time before I PF'd it. And now Frostwire won't even connect.
Brb googling this shizzle.

Azerus works more or less ok for me so whatev.

I had nightmares trying to get Azureus to work with my new router. Changed over to utorrent and it only took me a few mins to work. I still hate port forwarding though.

try to enable UPnP via your router's page.
