If you're a JRPG fan, you should enjoy Lost Odyssey. It's just like Final Fantasy, except for the stunning prerendered cutscenes. If you don't mind PS 2.5 graphics in HD, LO is a pretty good pick.
For western RPGS, The Witcher is a great choice but it's supposedly to get a massive upgrade in a few months so I would wait on it. Titan's Quest and the Expansion is great fun if you loved Diablo. For a more strategic RPG, go with Neverwinter 2 and the Expansion.
There've been a ton of awesome strategy games released on the PC in the last year. C&C3, Company of Heroes, World in Conflict are all highly recommended. Sins of a Solar Empire and Supreme Commander are great too but they'll require more time and effort to learn.
In terms of shooters, what have you played in the last year? There've been so many FPS games in the past year that it's kinda hard to recommend any, withou knowing what you've played.
