Fuuuuck. There's no chance of a Bluray version anytime soon, right?
-
i'd been buying anime for years but it still drives me crazy to see the prices
$30 for a single disc of four episodes? I'm well aware of the economics of it, but jesus
-
$30 for 26 episodes in this sale, dude!!!! :D
-
meh.
i'm not really an anime watcher anymore.
my favorite anime of the past few years was Nasu part 1 Andulusian Summer, which was a short movie about a bicycle race. i don't have the time to watch series stuff anymore.
fun fact. while googling to get the anime name i found this
BiShoujo Game fanatic Kidnaps 13 Women (2002-04-30 11:10:08)
A Japanese H-Game Otaku is reported to have kidnapped at least 13 women, some of them young girls, and forced them to re-enact scenes from the erotic games. According to the Mainichi Daily News, he tortures them, raped them and even forced some to marry him.

There's still some great stuff out there. Just look at it as general televised entertainment and don't fall into the trap of looking at it as a nice geek genre.
Also, wtf at that headline. I think I heard about that story before.
-
i don't doubt that at all. i don't discount the genre or anything, but i just haven't seen anything which caught my fancy in a while.

DiCaprio 'to produce anime film'
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio will produce through his company Appian Way
Leonardo DiCaprio is to produce a live-action version of anime classic Akira, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The 1988 Japanese film was considered to be a groundbreaking piece of animation, co-written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo.
It is set in 2019 in post-nuclear war New Tokyo where a biker gains super powers after being subjected to experiments.
Warner Bros is aiming for a release in 2009, it is reported.
Unlike the original, the new movie will be set in New Manhattan, a city rebuilt with Japanese cash.
-
I heard about this, it sounds AWFUL. They're moving all the action to the US and re-casting all the original Japanese characters with white people.
There was an actual thematic reason why the original Akira took place in the aftermath of a big war, why New Tokyo was built on the remains of a destroyed capital, etc. I dunno, this just smells like it's gonna be a huge POS.
-
i have no faith
but am interested in the art direction if nothing else
-
I'm curious to know who'll be directing this. It'll either be a weird art film or a mainstream shitty sci-fi picture.
-
A gaffer is writing Akira apparently. Unless it has a really huge budget and great team working on it, I think the end result of a live-action version will be really shit.
-
i'm guessing horrible
-
Imagine if it gets horrible CG work like Heroes :yuck

A gaffer? Could it be...WILLCO!?
The other anime/manga adaptation that actually might be well done is James Cameron's Battle Angel Alita, which he supposedly will do after he finishes Avatar.
Fun fact: At one point, Cameron was interested in doing a live-action version of Gundam. That woulda rocked so hard.

The genre is so inbred at this point that when I read that, I thought it was the premise of a new anime series. 13 episodes is a standard season!

I sorta wanna buy Jin-Roh. Worth it for... $12?
-
Yes, it definitely is.
