I've watched the first 3 eps now and it seems like Dexter is to sociopaths what a Breakfast Club clone is to teenagers.
If I have to hear the "I can never feel. I don't understand people" shit again I'm turning it off.
Does it get better than this?
-
Obviously Dexter's inability to relate to others and his inability to feel empathy towards others are important characteristics that explain his motivation and behavior.
edit:
Although Dexter does seem to display empathetic behavior, I don't know if this is a genuine display of empathy. I think it is based on an abstract principle duty and not a natural human feeling. He's a sociopath using Kantian based morality to those close to him and using a crude form of utilitarianism towards the rest of society.
-
I get that. I just don't see why they have to repeat that every 20 mins.
The dialog is also really bad too, though I might feel this only because I'm coming off of my Rome high.
-
I think the narration is supposed to be trite, like the narration one might find in a pulp novel. The dialogue is realistic, typical of low-brow cops.
-
Dexter grew on me as I watched it, although I wouldn't call it a brilliant show. Pure 7-out-of-10: not amazing but enjoyable and worth watching.
-
ep 4 was a bit better. the iceman killer thing is getting interesting. Does this plot arc end at the end of season 1 or continue into 2?
-
season 1 is extremely self-contained
-
thats good. I will keep watching then.
-
Season 2 is OMG awesome.

I dunno, this issue is even more blatant in season 2. And towards the end of season 1. It doesn't immediately bug me or anything, but it's annoying because the writer's seem oblivious to it. If they were building up to something, I could understand it, but when the issue has gone unaddressed for twenty-some episodes, it is officially a problem.
And Arby, Dexter is probably just too good for you. Go back to Naruto.
-
I honestly only watched the first episode and the last two episodes of the first season. And then I watched season 2. Season 2 is definitely better.
-
Dexter and all the Scrubs seasons are $20 at Best Buy so I'm picking them all up tomorrow. I'll post impressions of Dexter in here when I watch it.
-
Just watched the first episode and this show is amazing. I can't wait to watch the rest of them.
-
I went to pick up Dexter at Best Buy today and they didn't have it. I guess that's God's sign that I must acquire it through other means and stream it through my 360.
-
Just finished season two. Wow. What a great season. TVC, you're a big Dexter fan, did you ever read the books? Are they worth anyone's time?
-
I read some of the first book. Prole has read all of them, I believe.
Basically, the books are like seriously Anne Ricey. They take themselves pretty seriously, but duder isn't a good writer, so the whole thing seems hella hokey. It's like legitimate camp.
-
how does it compare with the Anita Blake novels (say)

You know, I have an omnibus edition of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, 2 Dexter books, and other assorted sundries that make me wary of picking up any additional ironic book purchases. I have no Anita Blake. I almost bought that graphic novel until I saw that the art was way too gay, even for me. I was afraid the cashier would think I was actually into that.

I'm getting into this thing now. just watched the circle of friends ep.

great ending to season 1.
I like this shit now.
-
gets better with season 2. first few episodes will have you really hooked.
-
Holy shit, I just finished season 1. That's probably the greatest 12 hours I've ever spent in front of a television screen. I can't wait for season 2 to come out on DVD so I started downloading it. I'll end up buying it when it comes out, but man. I need it now. I need my Dexter fix. This is the best show I've seen.
-
I want to face fuck Dexter's sponsor. She's not OMG hot but her accent gets me.

Father Mike is trying to demonstrate his heterosexuality. Unfortunately being attracted to Michael Jackson won't do the trick.
-
I'd come back with a witty reply, but my raging hardon is impeding my typing.
-
Being attrated to Hall is less gay.
-
If media player didn't black out all my screen grabs I'd post pics.

Dexter's Murderous, Forensic Fun Comes To Consoles
The Showtime television drama based on author Jeff Lindsay's forensic scientist by day, serial killer by night series of novels Dexter is getting its own video game, IGN reports. Showtime Networks and Marc Ecko Entertainment are said to have partnered to bring the bloody, award-winning show to unspecified platforms at an unspecified date.
Yes, details are scarce, but the folks who brought you Mark Ecko's Getting Up are apparently working closely with Showtime to get it right. We just hope it turns out better than all that CSI dreck Ubisoft keeps shoveling out.
yay...fuck.
