English-language picaresque (though still not as good as Spanish picaresque) :bow
The Adventures of Roderick Random :bow
The Expedition of Humphry Clinker :bow

I wish they'd make more picaresque movies. Because Barry Lyndon was <3. Then again I'd just waste time comparing them to Barry Lyndon and I'd hate them all.
I find most picaresque novels to not be as fun as they should be. That was back when writers basically got paid by page count, which lead to lots of books that are just too long to be easily enjoyed.

The fact that this isn't a TVC thread blows my mind.

I'd like some Spanish films that deal with the picaresque, like adaptations of Quevedo's El Buscon and the originator of the genre, Lazarillo de Tormes. Too bad Spanish cinema SUCKS nowadays. Guess we'll have to rely on some Mexi like Del Toro to do it.

I read several of Tobias Smollett's works back in college and they were awesome. I am re-reading Humphry Clinker now.
TVC DOES NOT HAVE A MONOPOLY ON LITFAG THREADS...does he? :ninja
