I've been eating too much good foods the last couple of weeks and it finally caught up with me. For the last week, I've been feeling bloated and lethargic everyday. Since today is the beginning of a new week, I've decided to make a change. This morning, I ate a bowl of oatmeal even though I had some leftover pizza in the fridge. The oatmeal actually tasted better than I expected but I'll probably go hungry again real soon. What are other some other things that I can try? I'll like to start limiting myself to 2000 calories/day until I start losing a few pounds.
-
carrots
fresh vegetables
high fiber foods, really
-
carrots are kinda yucky
celeries too
What are some high fiber fruits that taste good? I like bananas but I don't think they have much fiber.
-
i dunno about fiber but i eat pretty much all those:
carrots, melon/water melon, apple, orange, cucumber and green grapes.
-
What are some healthy fast food places? I don't usually cook. Ordering from chains like Chili's, Macaroni Grill, Claim Jumper's, etc is what got me fat. Not to mention burgers or Asian ever now and then, which are even worse.
-
healthy and fast food? is such thing possible?
-
Uh chicken breasts
-
Beans, legumes, and bean based soup. A good black lentil soup with is really filling, delicious, and healthy.
Yoghurt--mixed with dried oatmeal, nuts, dried fruits or berries.
Nuts--A handful of nuts has healthy fats and is very filling.
Low sodium white meat turkey. Make sandwiches and use a lot of slices.
Tuna w/o mayo, seasoned with salt and pepper and add some green onions for a flavor boost.
Salads. Embellish them with anything above with the exception of yoghurt.

cauliflower

Don't they make you gassy? That's what I"ve heard.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far. Nothing sounds tasty though. :(
Is it really that hard to eat healthy?
-
Sounds like you're gonna struggle :lol
It's not really hard to eat healthy, but you pretty much have to cook for yourself.

PD's suggestion of chicken breasts sounds like the best idea. Do you have any good and easy recipes? I usually just put Japanese curry on them, which is fattening as hell.
-
I usually season chicken breast with a dry barbecue rub and then grill them on a cast iron skillet.
-
i totally just get tysons perfect portions. get the italian marinated ones. i bake it in the oven for 15 minutes and while it's baking i eat a salad, usually spinach and onion and broccoli.
nom nom nom

i dunno, i love it but i don't eat it every time, maybe 3 times a year :lol

Do a stir-fry. Chicken breast + broccoli + San-J Szechuan = no sugar, low fat, no refined carbs, high fiber. Super tasty.
-
Stir fries are a great option, Smooth. As a busy med-school student you'll appreciate how quickly these cook.
-
Stir-fries are great and pretty much how I survived college (apart from shit-tons of Buffalo's exorbitant amount of good junk food)
-
stir-fry :bow
-
I love rice. It's mostly carbs, but it's not unhealthy and it totally fills you up.
-
I just ate a whole pizza :-\
-
eat seamen like usual ahahagahagha
-
I make a smoothie every morning. I get some frozen fruits on the weekend, cook them down with a little sugar, smack it with an immersion blender and then strain for seeds if necessary. Every morning I do like 6 oz of juice or milk+fruit purees+2 or 4 tbsps of plain yogurt+like 1/8th cup of sorbet+1 nanner. Easy and delicious.
-
A good, quicky salad: Arugula+1 smallish hamburger patty or leftover steak+parmesan=DELISH TOWN. Add some finely chopped red onion for tru luv.
-
I'm surviving college on only stir fry and salads, I love both.
-
I usually have a bowl of cereal.
-
Uh chicken breasts

My current diet includes
Sliced Fruit (usually bananas, strawberries, pineapple)
Oatmeal
Cheerios
Yogurt
Turkey Wraps
Low Sodium Soup
Herbal and Iced Tea
Coffee
Where it all goes wrong:
CHEESY DOUBLE BEEF BURRITO FROM TACO BELL AKA "The Warm Delicious"
CHEESY ROLL FROM TACO BELL AKA "PRELUDE TO THE WARM DELICIOUS"
7-11 Sausage Egg Taquitos
-
Yeah, i've had to cut down on saturated fats and sodium, which has been a bummer. The Taco Bell and 7-11 stuff is not THAT often. In general I will order oatmeal breakfasts where I can, or go for things like the grilled chicken go wraps at wendys.
You have to have your 'free' meals once in a while or you become absolutely disgusted with the healthy stuff all the time.
As for suppliments I take: fish oil, daily vitamin, garlic, echinacea, magnesium, valerian, low-dose asprin.

remarkably similar to my diet
except my taquito area of fail is the jalapeno cream cheese. it's like a mexican bagel
-
Lentils are fucking tasty. So is hummus.
-
I eat much better when I am at home because I stock healthy and im too lazy to go out to get food once im in. Oddly Taco Bell does less to upset my stomach and make me feel like death than most fast food these days. I think it has to do with the starches in fries and sugars in bread at other places.
-
They need to swap the dressing in the grilled with whats in the homestyle go-wrap. Currently it sux the way it is. Still a nice option to a burger.
I used to do burger and nuggets instead of burger and fries, but these days that doesnt sit so well and I need something a lot lighter for lunch.
-
I love rice. It's mostly carbs, but it's not unhealthy and it totally fills you up.
Brown Rice is a nice substitute but it really needs some kind of light sauce or something to eat with it to make it enjoyable
-
Another good thing you guys can make if you're tired of uber healthy stuff is spaghetti. Just use ground chuck instead of hamburger meat; that'll cut down on the fat significantly. Use more stewed tomatoes than processed ( :-X) tomato sauce to cut down on sodium
Pork chops anyone? If you need a meat and you're tired of chicken breast it's a great pick. You can take most of the excess fat off before you even cook it. VERY easy to make: season it, throw it in the over, BAM.
-
I have a desk job so I stay away from pasta. The pasta is what kills spaghetti. Regular 'fat' isn't actually THAT bad for you in normal doses.
I will agree to pork chops tho. Good stuff.
-
Pork Chops are delicious.
-
i'm unemployed: what does pasta have to do with a desk job? maybe i don't want a desk job afterall :-\
SNACKS: trail mix :bow
-
Pasta is full of CARBS. CARBS are ok when USED. Sitting at a deskjob does not = USED CARBS
-
oh. well i work out so no biggie
bowflex while watching Little Nemo :rock
-
Pork Chops are pretty cheap and good when trimmed.
The ultimate fill you up, taste good, healthy for you food are, of course, beans (which includes stuff like lentils and what not). Not freaking sugared up baked beans , but beans as part of a dish of course. Sensible chilis, bean-based soups, and other dishes have long been a diet's best friend because of the way that they make you full, provide protien without the red meat, and work well in a variety of dishes.
When my wife goes on her trips in the field over the spring/summer, I make some chili or a bean soup and just eat it until she comes back. Quick, never hungry, and its easy so doesn't get in the way of my reading/gaming.
Just drink lots of WATER to keep them digesting. No one at work wants to listen to your frequent colonic disruption.
-
Or smell it
-
I eat a lot of bread, will I die

MAF, do you drink your teas sweetened or unsweetened?
-
its a good question! If I want something filling yet low in grease I'll grab a falafel wrap or something. Dont really know much else
-
I ate to pizzas and drank a 44oz slurpee this weekend. :-\
A man can only eat so much raw broccoli, mixed nuts, and chicken!!!
-

Carrot sticks

No salt, no sauce, no nothing, just BROWN RICE. fills me up nicely.
also chicken breasts.
-
I've always assumed that a mackerel and crisp bread sandwich was a good meal, although I'll admit I'm not up on the health-nut trends.
-
sperm

I had chicken wrapped with bacon in a liver sauce and an amazing alsatian riesling this weekend.

Cool. I usually order it at french bistro style restaurants; it pairs wonderfully with choucroute garni.
-
Chikpeas. Great fried, in salads, sauted, or in hummus.
-
beef jerky
