I know it'll be awhile before I'll goto college but Ive always found it best to have a general idea ahead of time.
Anyway, today I got an invitation to the open house at Boson University's Center for digital Arts which is on the 15th. I'm probably going to go because I'm interested in living the dream and getting a job in the video games industry and according to what I got in the mail, this is totally the school for me.
However, I'm a little curious if I should deviate from my original plan of having UBALT as my number #1 pick and instead put this school at the top of my list. So let me ask this to you smart people out there, would http://www.cdiabu.com/3danimation.php (http://www.cdiabu.com/3danimation.php) be the one to take or should I stick with http://iat.ubalt.edu/SDE/ (http://iat.ubalt.edu/SDE/) ?

you want EB to research the two school's programs (curriculum, professors, reputations), the job placement rate from each, and the average salary, etc. for you?

Financial aid, need based and academic scholarships, and, oh yes, god forbid student loans? Dude, follow your dreams. Don't worry about the how's it will figure itself out if you are committed.

Just leave the country after you graduate, like I did. Then you don't have to pay back the loans.

Possibly not. In Australia you get an interest free loan from the government, paid back through tax when you start earning a high enough salary.

Which is what I originally planned to do. I was going to get a nice job in retail and work my ass off to score a decent sized place of my own and put the rest into college money. I could probably save alot more if I stayed at home but, I kinda want something of my own.

You will not want to miss out on that first year of college. Yeah living in the dorms sucks but at the same time it rocks. Sneaking in beers, and better yet sneaking into co-eds rooms for some late night loving. Living on campus and doing all those campus things.
It's worth going into debt. college will cost you, what, 10k a year at a public university in-state. that's 40-50k... Your first house will probably cost you 5-6 times that.
Then again, I never want to graduate (hence grad school).

Max_Cool: That's not a bad point. College life is something that always looked cool to me. My only complaint is having a roommate. Ive had to share a room with someone else for majority of my life and I'm a little tired of it. Plus, apperently, they steal you shit and possibly kill your pets.
yeah, roommates can make life hell. Maybe you and a sort-of friend want to go to the same school and you can ask to room together. I wouldn't room with a best friend though. Another option is, if you hate your roommate, you can ask to switch rooms or whatever after the first semester. Also, a lot of dorms have singles, but they cost more.

that's the school my parents wouldn't help me pay for which embittered me to the world!
(it was most frustrating because they were shelling out for military school at the time)

it isn't really BU. It's just one of their campuses in D.C.(they have them all over the place too)
Ahh, that explains why I've never seen the center. Ahh well.

Stanford University today announced the largest increase in its history for its financial aid program for undergraduates.
Under the new program, parents with incomes of less than $100,000 will no longer pay tuition. Parents with incomes of less than $60,000 will not be expected to pay tuition or contribute to the costs of room, board and other expenses.
The program also eliminates the need for student loans.

That's not cheap, but it sounds about right for a private college. State schools are considerly less expensive.
