Title: Evilbore March Book Club: Don Quixote. Who's with me?

I'm planning to re-read Don Quixote again.  I've read it three times.  The first time was when I was in junior high (I only read Part I).  The second time was as a high school student, as part of my Spanish literature class (again, only Part I).  The third time was as a college student (this time, both Part I and II).

Each time I've read it, I've appreciated it on a completely different level.  Initially, it was just a comic story featuring two classic literary archetypes.  The second time, I looked at it as homework and was mostly interested in looking at how Cervantes used the different literary genres (the pastoral, chivalric novels, morality tales, etc.).  The third time, I think I really began to appreciate it on a literary and a deeply personal level. Now that I'm growing older ( :'(), Ive decided the time has come to read it once more, and see what I take from it.

Anybody interested in joining me?  While I'm going to be reading it in Spanish, I'm sure that there are free English editions available online.

I'll lock this if there's no interest.

That's hella long.  It takes Arby a month to read 10 pages of the bible.

I'd like to read it, if it wasn't 27,000 pages long.

We can restrict ourselves to Part I, if that encourages anyone to jump in and join us.

Some more of Gustave Dore's Don Quixote illustrations, to get everyone interested.

Don Quixote saves a boy from his master's whipping.  However, as soon as he leaves, his master, angry at being humiliated, whips the boy twice as hard.

The most famous incident from the novel is one of the very first: Don Quixote and Sancho spot some windmills in the distance, and Quixote is convinced they are giants.  The result of the ensuing battle is obvious...and painful.

Don Quixote frees a group of prisoners who protest their innocence.  Upon liberating them he asks them to swear fealty to his lady Dulcinea.  The prisoners proceed to beat the crap out of Quixote and Sancho.

I suspect this particular illustration depicts a scene from the Cardenio section of Don Quixote (which was later turned into a play by Shakespeare...a play that is unfortunately one of his lost works).
