Title: being a man is awesome
Post by: drohne on February 28, 2008, 02:40:02 AM
right, so i was rearranging some stuff a while back, and it turned out that i needed a little stand for one of my rear speakers. i saw this bose table-stand-mount-thing that was a perfect fit -- except it only works with bose speakers, and BEING A MAN, i don't have bose speakers. i figured i'd buy it anyway and then MODIFY IT to work with my speakers. so sure enough the basic problem was that this mount attached with a much smaller screw than my speakers would take. so i went to the home depot, found the appropriate screws, and looked for a sort of L-shaped bracket thing with which to replace the mounting bracket on the stand. A PROBLEM AROSE: all the L-shaped bracked things at home depot had really small holes in them for wee nails rather than BIG MACHINE SCREWS. then i noticed a roughly appropriate L-shaped bracket thing in a kit of garage door parts and found some washers to compensate for its SLIGHTLY TOO LARGE holes. and i just put the whole thing together and IT FUCKIN WORKS

I cut down a tree and hand-carved my own stand. and speakers.

Big props to you for making the stands work and more importantly, not buying Bose speakers.

A real man knows that Bose is crap.

this story is only cool if you watched some porn on your new system and beat off furiously while drinking a beer

i don't have any beer

i kind of wanted to beat off to the sight of the working stand itself

even the faintly pathetic token maleness here demonstrated was a needed reprieve from the consumerism and passive media consumption that dominate my life -- and yours, evilbore

That was pretty quick thinking.  Looks like all your e-battles have trained you to think outside the box.

Who's the dummy?  Tell him/her to return them and get better speakers for the same price.

i had someone say they'd kick me in the balls if i bought BOSE speakers.... not that it was ever an option.

:bow Yamaha 550 range... though i did try to order the Klispch reference speakers, which was obviously overkill!

Is the Yahama 550 a 5.1 home theather in a box?   :-\  Those aren't much better than Bose.  Even the Klispch are still kinda low end.  Your Xbot highness should try out speakers from B&W, JM Labs, Martin Logan or Revel.  They are much more fitting for someone of your stature.

I meant low end by audiophile standards, which could still be pretty good for most people.  For example, the most expensive Denon receiver would be considered about lowish-mid end.  Go listen to those speakers I mentioned if you ever have time.  Their high end products will blow you mind.  You'll hear stuff in your CDs that you didn't even know were there.

B&W makes good stuff but you need a really big room for most of their high end products.  Does your father use 5.1 or is he a purist with just two speakers?
