THE BORE

And I just played the demo.
Calling it right fucking now.
After playing the demo to this game, it has shot right up to my most anticipated psp game of the year. I love Space Invaders. People may say it's primitive compared to its sons, but I find it to be one of the definitive shmup series and I <3 Space Invaders clones like crazy.
The game is Rez-esque, in that every pew you pew pew makes a note to the beat. But, unlike Rez, it actually has some depth to it. Also, the music in the demo rules. If the music in the game stays at this quality, it'll be a winner.
It takes the standard Space Invaders formula and makes it even more addicting. In this entry, there are no bases, which is very Majestic Twelve-esque, which owns by the way. In this one, there's even more emphasis on hittin those good ol' UFO's because depending on the type you can go in bonus stages and fucking shit up even more. Some bonus stages include HIT 15 Invaders, which mainly consists of invaders falling down 5 x normal speed or something. There's another bonus stage which is very Space Invaders 95-esque. Remember in the first level of Space Invaders 95 where you encounter a bonus round where you have to shoot the red UFO's in time so you can blow up the entire line? It's back!
It also has various drops. I've encountered three drops so far: a green spread, a huge ass blue laser that blows anything in its way, and a red fireball. As far as I've seen there's no charge, so you can't charge ur lazers in this one it seems. :(
The game is very Space Invaders 95-ish with out being a cute em up. Its got awesome invader patterns too, similarly to that game. Sometimes the invaders will come equipped with a thick armor that takes 2-3 shots to break. And then there's these other Invaders who FLIP OVER and are thin as hell, making them hard to shoot. On top of that, in standard SI 95 fashion, each stage has a boss. Oh man this is great because Space Invaders 95 is my favorite Space Invader! It's like a spiritual successor with a more adult touch. It's like a mish mash of my favorite Space Invaders: Majestic Twelve and Space Invaders 95.
Forget Crisis Core. This game is where it is at. Less wah wah more pew pew.

this looks awesome, definitely pirating
-
SPACE INVADERS EXTREME NEEDS LOVE OMG
-
maybe I'll show my love for Space Invaders Extreme by buying Crisis Core
just like you show your love for EB by posting on GAF
-
I pirated the DS version, same thing
-
I will definitely check it out. :pirate
I pirated the DS version, same thing
I am guessing the PSP game is the definitive version?
-
I dont have my PSP to test
-
The commercials they're running for the DS and PSP versions of this over in Japan are great. I saw them earlier today while watching some videogame show.
I LOVE YOU KEYHOLE TV!!
-
Yeah I dunno where depth comes in, all I did was hold down the shoot button and I was racking points
-
LOL. I have to update to 3.80 to play the game (or demo at least). Fuck that, I am sticking with 3.71 M33-4.
Looks like I am pirating the DS version instead.
-
BUY THIS GAME, ASSHOLES. :maf
My PSP firmware is like 3.70 M-33 or whatever and it plays the game just fine. I'm gonna go get the DS version today and compare the two...gotta get rid of Lost Planet on PS3 and I don't think there's much else to buy anyway.
-
So you're not getting IDOLM@STER Live for U?
I don't do rori.
-
So this is the breakdown for the ds/psp?
ds:
- Better music
- Dual screen play when it comes to the boss fights, which seem to make the fights a lot better.
- Arkanoid controller use
psp:
- sexy psp screen
- ?
So yeah, it seems that the ds version is the one to go for.
-
Wow.
Thanks, Himumu. I've never heard of this game at all. Looks sweet.
-
I have both versions, allow me to state the differences:
So this is the breakdown for the ds/psp?
ds:
- Better music
Bullshit. Zuntata seems to have handled the soundtrack, BUT the PSP version is using "real" artists and definitely has better sound quality as well. Is anyone else even saying this besides sp0rsk?
- Dual screen play when it comes to the boss fights, which seem to make the fights a lot better.
You get dual screen in the bonus rounds, too. I like this, but at the same time, it's annoying because of the space in between the two screens.
- Arkanoid controller use
Uh, yay? Use a controller attachment that Space Invaders never used in the first place!
You also forgot wi-fi play for the DS version.
psp:
- sexy psp screen
Better resolution. The screen placement is also better: Your stats are on the left and right of the playfield. The DS has the action on the bottom screen and stats on top; it's much easier to take in everything on the single PSP screen IMO.
-?
PSP 2000's TV out is awesome with this game. It really looks a LOT better on TV, actually...the sprites stand out much better against the background.
Really, this is the same game on both platforms. The PSP version looks a little better and sounds better, DS makes use of both screens at times and has wi-fi play. Those are the differences. It's essentially the same awesome game on both systems and you can't go wrong either way.
-
Probably getting PSP version since I'm a graphics whore. If the game is great I will double dip and get the DS version.
-
okay. thanks lyte.
groo: rumble?!!?
-
DS rumble pack? You never heard of it, Himuro?
