The bit where the camera passes the car is insane. It's a helicopter shot that starts from a distance, but when the camera passes the car, it is no more than 6 or so feet of the ground. That is fucking insane. I can't imagine how many takes that shot took, since it involved such intricate timing. The bit where the car is on the cusp of a snow cap is also really impressive, although it doesn't come across as such in the youtube vid. You don't get enough detail, really. There are very few spots on earth where a picture like that could be taken.

Nah, I thought it was medical terminolgy (I'm taking a class in it) for "an x-ray image of semen." I don't know if semen is semenat/o, but it's an ironic name, because after that x-ray, there would be no more semen.

I love, love, love long tracking shots (I <3 you DePalma). I feel like a pud for not noticing those before, but gosh almighty, there's just so much stunning camera work in The Shining that its almost easy not to notice how stunningly well the film was made.

speaking of impossible camerawork, how the heck did Johnnie To pull off this exactly, I know there's gotta be a steadicam dude on a crane or something, but the camera's agility is just nuts.

I dunno. Kubrick kept up on camera technology more than most, so he might have just known someone that came up with it. He 100% definitely did not film it himself. That shot is (apparently) from Montana, and Kubrick never left the UK after moving there.
My favorite tracking shot is probably Touch of Evil.

Cinematography really interests me. It's something that I really didn't pay attention to until maybe a year or two ago. I've noticed many Scorsese films are quite fluid in terms of the camera work. It always seem to be in the right place to get a shot, or it'll move along with the action perfectly. And then there's Leone; his stuff feels more like I'm viewing a moving picture book than a film often. I watched OUATITW again a couple days ago and DAMN it looks sooo good. There's a mixture of the close up shots on faces with many wiiide shots that really make you appreciate the beauty of everything.
I'll probably watch Children of Men later today, which just leaves my jaw open every time. Like Scorsese stuff the camera is almost always in motion, perhaps even more, but each shot is coherent.
I need to see Touch of Evil. I saw that opening tracking shot awhile ago and it's amazing
