Nathaniel acquired several signatures from notable members of the gaming community, all collected directly upon his console with permanent marker. Signatures from several members of the Rooster Teeth Productions staff shared space with signatures from members of the Xbox 360 team and also staff from Bungie Studios. He even had custom artwork by Rooster Teeth Comics artist and Halo fan artist Luke McKay on it.
...
Despite the fact that Nathaniel called beforehand and got assurances that everything would be ok, despite the fact that he included a very detailed and clear letter with his console, despite the fact that it was no fault of his own that his console broke in the first place, Nathaniel is just another gamer to get screwed over by Microsoft in a rather unique way. My brain simply can’t understand how an error of this magnitude happened. I do hope they take the time to make this right. But what are the chances of that, right?

The mind boggles. What cocks. I'd fucking lose it if this happened to me. I'd sell everything Microsoft and refuse to ever buy anything they ever put out again.

He seriously expected the same box back? Earth to nerd - not happening
He should have just got a new one period
-
Wait. What?
-
Wait you didnt post the entire article, apparently that IS he same box, but Microsoft rubbed off all the marker, as you can see the faint marks at the bottom of the case

Comparing the pics, there is nothing on the original box where there could have been a mark on the now "wiped" box
-
damn that sucks
-
Guy is still a moron, in any case. Durrr I'm gonna give away my custom one of a kind box to get fixed
-
I actually know two of the people that went to the NA launch party but they would only get memory cards signed. Probably cause they actually planned to use their 360's.
-
What a naive young man?

Well as a number of people pointed out, it was PERMANENT MARKER. Someone at MS had to really want that shit wiped off. I have a sneaking suspicion that it was due to the 'derogatory' remarks on it.
-
It's not that hard if they have the right chemicals. Which they probably did since cleaning's part of their jobs.
-
It sucks that this happened, but it was hardly unpredictable.
-
I agree that the guy was a moron thinking nothing would happen. I happen to also feel that MS were cocks for doing this as well. Both are at fault! Either of them had the ability to avoid the outcome.
-
They did him a favor, it looked awful. Scribbled on (whoops, I mean "autographed") by the guys from Rooster Teeth, yeah that's going to be worth something.

it was worth something to him and that's really all that matters

ps. It was some guy making shit for money cleaning refurbished x-boxes, not some corporate exec hellbent on wiping out any and all anti microsoft sloganeering.

it's only a matter of time before ms throws in the towel (geddit? lol)
-
He probably felt like 360 gamer royalty since he was invited to this and got those autographs. The multi billion dollar company that is Microsoft would surely remember him! Hurrrrrrrrrr
And it being wiped off is hilarious (with smudge mark evidence)

My car had Michael Jordan's booger smeared on it, and those bastards at the auto shop scraped it off. :(

I agree that you can't send in a broken console and expect it to come back the same but he apparently called customer service to make sure they don't do anything to it. I can understand his frustration.

Uh yeah, stand in line, guy. In a perfect world we would all get our boxes back so our downloaded content would still work. Oops, guess that ain't happening.

Bungie to Rectify Fan's Wiped 360
Halo house Bungie tells Next-Gen that it is working on something super-secret to rectify a situation that saw the Xbox 360 repair service wipe the nostalgia from one fan's console.
ImageYou can't say that Bungie doesn't look out for its fans.
The Next-Gen blog posted a story recently about an Xbox fan whose Xbox 360 had been signed by key Halo and Xbox figures over the course of about two years. That Xbox 360 encountered the dreaded Red Ring of Death, and the Xbox fan, "Nathaniel," had to send it in for service.
And even though a service rep assured him on the phone that the signatures would be intact upon return of the console (and the fact that he included a letter clearly stating the console's importance), the Xbox 360 came back wiped virtually clean, with just a few black smudges left from the ink that adorned the console.
But now Bungie is ready to take action.
"Something is already 'afoot' within Bungie to help our community member in need," Bungie community director Brian Jarrard told Next-Gen on Monday. "Our team and the community as a whole is rallying to help fix this unfortunate situation. It’s been awesome to see such an outpouring of sympathy and support from our community. We can't replace the exact item that was lost but, but we should come very close."
Jarrard is still keeping Bungie's plans under wraps but one can imagine what kind of consolation prize a studio of Bungie's influence and financial stature could provide.
"I think when it’s all said and done, justice will prevail," said Jarrard.

Laugh now, but that'll be worth some real coin in the future. Hell I'd almost rather have that than the rest of the shit.

Microsoft has been kind enough to put together a package for all current 360 owners whose systems have broken down:
- One signed picture of Major Nelson
- One copy of Fusion Frenzy 2
- One free TriXie faceplate
- Xbox 360 stickers for your car window
