You have until approximately 11PM

What's if?

Go over to MAF's place and watch LXG with him.

30 days of night, do it

30 days of night, do it
Did you get it on Blu-ray? I might get that tomorrow.
-
The Last Emperor :bow
I hope you weren't planning on sleeping tonight.
-
I chose if... just because early Malcolm McDowell is so fucking awesome. Plus it's a good movie and has a really good transfer (if you're watching the Criterion version). Also which Insomnia (and Vanishing) are you referring too?
-
This is TVC, he is doubtlessly referring to the original versions.

yes, also the good version of Casino Royale is the original.

Just look at that cast list!
-
Have you ever seen it before?
-
Have you ever seen it before?
On TNT or TCM or something several years ago. Probably like a decade ago, actually. I found it cheap at a used shop the other week and I nabbed it.
-
Do you honestly think that train wreck of a movie is better than the Daniel Craig version, or are you just being facetious? :lol
-
Do you honestly think that train wreck of a movie is better than the Daniel Cragi version, or are you just being facetious? :lol
I remember thinking it was pretty hilarious at the time (now that I think about it, I probably saw it at the height of Austin Powers-mania).

If we're talking about jokey spy movies, I prefer those movies James Coburn did...I think he played a spy named Flint. In Like Flint, maybe? They are good, you should check those out.

if you like coburn, check out The President's Analyst!
Dr. Sidney Schaefer (James Coburn), a psychiatrist, is chosen by the U.S. Government to act as the President’s top-secret personal psychoanalyst, against the advice of Henry Lux, the director of the all-male-under-5'6" Federal Bureau of Regulation (FBR). Dr. Schaefer is given a home in affluent Georgetown and assigned a comfortable office connected to the White House by underground tunnel. From these locations he is to be on-call at any/all hours to fit the President's hectic schedule. However, the President's Analyst has one problem: there is no one he can talk to about the president's ultra-top-secret and personal problems. As he steadily becomes overwhelmed by stress, Schaefer begins to feel that he is being watched everywhere (which is actually true) until he becomes clinically paranoid; he even suspects his sweet girlfriend Nan (Joan Delaney) of spying on him, which she is, as an agent of the Central Enquiries Agency (CEA).

Somewhere, Solo is crying into his pillow.
Not really. Casino Royale '67 is one of the worst "spoofs" ever. Terrible movie. Now, if CR67 were legitimately awesome, then perhaps you would be right.
-
I'll take even subpar Peter Sellers and Orson Welles over Daniel Craig any day.
-
TVC, how's 30 days of night on Blu-ray? Is it worth the $30?
-
CR67 should rock, with all the talent. It just doesnt though. And Daniel Craig rocks. I dont mind shots at most of the Bonds (hell, I take tons at Moore and Brosnan all the time), but what has Craig done that is so wrong? Hes the best actor outside Dalton to play the part, and generally rocks all his roles, Bond or no.
-
I just bought Casino Royale on BD.
-
TVC, how's 30 days of night on Blu-ray? Is it worth the $30?
Nah, get it used. It looks really good if that's what you care about.
but what has Craig done that is so wrong?
He wasn't born as either Orson Welles or Peter Sellers.
I'm just joshing you, btw, I liked the newer Casino Royale.
-
I just bought Casino Royale on BD.
Ive been looking for it ever since I bought my PS3 a month or so ago. Im at the point now where Im just going to order it at Deep Discount or Amazon. I swear, no retail outlet in Alberta seems to carry it. Actually, there are 5-10 BDs that I want that I have yet to see in any brick and mortar. I really cant wait until another 1-2 years when BD has a much larger marketshare, and I dont need to feel like its work to try and find a certain disc.
-
I need to check out 30 days of night (isn't this movie about black people or something?).
-
How could you not like the new Casino Royale? That movie fucking rocked.
-
I need to check out 30 days of night (isn't this movie about black people or something?).
If by "black people" you mean "vampires". ???
-
Ok bishies, what will it be tonight? Updating poll.

RENEWAL!
-
It seems you really want to watch Logan's Run, so I voted for that one.

Fresh as harvest day. :o

this is true...I really love the original Casino Royale and thought it was way better than the oh-so-serious Daniel Craig snoozefest
-
Yeah I don't get the obsession with this SO-CALLED Daniel Craig.
Oh, also I have Casablanca here which I have never seen.
-
my issue with the modern Casino Royale is that there was all this Sony-fan level hype about how they were REINVENTING THE BOND FRANCHISE and at the end of the day it was just another Bond movie--better acted and shot than most, but still, gadgets, girls, tuxes, martinis, stupid villains, etc.
:bow Bourne :bow2

If you honestly love the original Casino Royale, you're a moron. If you're just saying it to be contrarian, you're an annoying moron.
-
Daniel Craig has better 70s boobs than Jenny Craig.
Also, Logan's Run has pretty nice set and boob design.
-
Oh, also I have Casablanca here which I have never seen.
you have just blown my mind
-
my wife's family vastly prefers CR67 to the recent daniel craig movie. come to think of it, i probably do too, although it's more because i hate the stultifyingly awful bond subgenre.
-
I ended up watching Logan's Run. They sure don't make titties like they used to :( or Michael Yorks.

Kind of like how Ultimatum was just another Bourne movie?
-
Yeah I don't get the obsession with this SO-CALLED Daniel Craig.

WHAT!? WHAT!?
WHAT?!?!? WATCH IT!!!!!!
-
Yeah, thats fucked up. Casablanca is one of the few films that truly deserves and lives up to every last bit of its reputation. Probably the best screenplay ever, too. I love all the supporting characters and actors, too. While Bogart is the fucking man and owns the film, I always gravitate towards Calude Rain's pitch perfect performance as Cpt. Renaud. One of the slyest comedic performances ever.
Such a great film though.

CR67 is wacky exciting post-modern fun!
CR06 is zzz zzz zzz
The Bond franchise is so formulaic at this point it might as well be published by Nintendo.
-
No rebuttle about Ultimatum, which showed that your beloved franchise itself has fallen into its own formula?
-
I could watch 2 hours of Orson Welles eating something and it would probably be in the top 20 movies ever made.

Ultimatum was fine! Even if the structure was similar to the other Bourne movies, Bourne's character has an arc across the entire trilogy that makes each movie have a purpose. And in any case, there's a difference between repeating yourself 3 times and repeating yourself 22 times.
:piss Bond :piss2

Please explain the arc and purpose of Ultimatum to me, good sir! The filmmakers themselves didnt even know when the cameras rolled, and it shows in the form of more of the same. It actually feels like a greatest hits compilation of Identity and Supremacy. If Ultimatum were as fresh and creative as the first two films were, then I wouldnt even be arguing with you. But its not. Its an expertly crafted but creatively bankrupt curtain call.

The Breakfast Club is the white equivalent Scarface. Terrible movie with an absolutely puzzling following. For this sort of movie, Sixteen Candles is clearly so much superior.

So basically you don't have an answer, since you're deferring to some shitty article and the Academy awards? And lawlz at that article. How can it be the greatest American film trilogy ever when 1 of the films is a remake of the other 2, and when The Godfather 1 and 2 are each better than the entirety of the Bourne trilogy?
-
I have to go to work today and can't write as much of a rebuttal as I'd like (seriously, I know that sounds like a copout answer).
The short version is that while the structure of the Bourne movies are similar, the character of Jason Bourne actually changes and grows over the course of the trilogy. Bond is Bond is Bond. And Bond is boring.
-

I always considered The Boondock Saints to be the worst movie that white people inexplicably love, but hey, most any John Hughes movie would be a fine runner up.

While not totally correct, why didnt you just say this in the first place? I wouldnt have gone on a tangent if you'd said this. I might've argued that CR's Bond changed the stagnant Bond persona quite a bit, but other than that, I would have let it slide, as there is lots of truth in there, amidst some BS.
Basically though, Ill agree to disagree on this one.

Stop throwing all those fancy college words around if you don't know wtf you are talking about. Casino Royale is a mess of a script that was passed around through several screenwriters, including Woody Allen (whose biggest contribution was expanding his own role). It it not "post-modern" (unless you consider crap like Soul Plane and Scary Movie post-modern as well), it's shit.
Honestly, this is a dumb troll, but the possibility that you might actually be serious just makes me think so much less of you.

last night i watched The War Game by Peter Watkins

The War Game is a 1965 television film on nuclear war. Written, directed, and produced by Peter Watkins for the BBC, its depiction of the impact of Soviet nuclear attack on Britain caused dismay within the BBC and in government. It was scheduled for transmission in 1966 but was not transmitted until 1985, the corporation publicly stating that "the effect of the film has been judged by the BBC to be too horrifying for the medium of broadcasting"
which is, of course, really kind of sad because nuclear war is horrifying.
-
I'm not, like, a huge fan of either, but I really thought Daniel Craig was great in the last Bond movie, much better than Matt Damon in any of the Bourne movies.
-
Are people still arguing Bourne v. Bond? Didn't we establish that :piss James Bond :piss2 and :bow Jason Bourne :bow2
No, just some movie nerd talk about getting excited for hype and then being disapointed that Casino Royale was just another, guess what? Bond film. (hurrrr)
Normal people that just go and see movies without pretension enjoyed the film.
ps: watch American Gangster

I have it on VHS, along with all the other Connery Bonds, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and the two Daltons. Don't watch them often enough to justify re-buying them on DVD.

Buying this as soon as DeepDiscount has their next half-off sale (shouldn't that be relatively soon?).
