Today while hanging out with my friends I was listening to techno. When I was drawing my tits and gash pic for tvc I was listening to techno. Right now when I'm chatting on IM I'm listening to techno.
TECHNO!
I used to think I hated the genre, but then I realized I just hated Tiesto style techno (sorry tiesto :(). My friend lemme borrow this awesome techno comp cd recently and I ripped it to my Zune. Lately it's really all I've been listening to.

Do you really love techno, or are you just saying that because you saw it?
-
Saw what? The youtubes? I didn't watch the youtubes until I posted them. I've been listening via my zune.
-
Get Ultra Dance 09. I've listened to this so many times. Not as much as Daft Punk's Alive 2007 album, but a lot of times.

Listen to Ed Banger stuff. You have really corny taste in techno, but there is still hope!
example:

The music is gay but the visuals are OMG.
-
nevermind, i'm an idiot.
-
Oh hell no, you posted fucking Yelle. :lol
Himuro, stay far away!
-
you're posting in a thread with 'techno' yet people are linking to mainstream dance hits. Get the fuck out with your elistism, it's obviously not meant to be a deep discussion of idm
-
Saw what? The youtubes? I didn't watch the youtubes until I posted them. I've been listening via my zune.

Well then post actual techno

That'd probably be like...uh...Sandstorm by DaRude or something. That cool club song in the first Blade movie. I like the stuff I listen to now. Dance remixes and things like that. I LOVE that Calabria song.
-

I hope this love of techno does not interfere with your artwork.

i think the reason why you love "techno" is because you don't know what techno is.

This, my precious Himumu, is where you learn that electronic music snobs are even less tolerable than my kin of classical music snobs.
-
Yeah, the stuff you listed would be house, not techno... check out my mixes, http://www.duky.org/mixes.html , tell me what you think of the 2 House ones (from June 07 and Feb 08).
-
techno, trance, whatever.
I called it techno because TIESTO HATES THE NAME ELECTONICA. They have all of these styles and I have no clue what is what.
If what I posted was house, post actual techno plz!
-
see above
just call it dance music
but then you get into the problem that Afrika Bambaata describes. All Music Is Dance Music
-
Eric, I'm a fan of most of the tracks you posted, but especially Stacey Pullen and Simon.
-
stacey pullen is an amazing dj. i got to see him in the sullivan room in nyc. definitely a GREAT night.
simon is a local dj who is essentially responsible for the popularity of electro and minimal techno in dc, but he's very versatile.
if you want to explore the genre a bit more, check out this site.
http://www.blentwell.com/tags.php/techno
there's a lot to pure techno.
-
Do you compilations you'd suggest I "acquire" so I can get more exposure to these electronic genres they call techno and house?
could someone explain the difference between techno and house?
what are some other electronic genres
-
if you really want your mind blown
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_electronic_music_genres
house comes from disco. it's a generally a bit more soulful, and has sweeping vocals and generally a positive uplifting vibe.
techno is the invention of three black kids in detroit who got their hands on some krautrock. it's known for its stripped down repetitive sound. generally quite bassy with a very "severe" sound. techno can be contain a fairly diverse range of sounds. for example, both the Simon mix above and the Stacey Pullen mix are techno, but stacey pulles from more of an (for lack of a better term) american black musical experience, whereas Simon's influences and tastes are more tuned towards a european tradition.
-
why are thur so many electronic genres
-
honestly, it's probably all the drugs.
but really most electronic music can be traced back to the same few origins. disco, funk, krautrock. (amazingly enough the same exact origins for hip hop)
it's just that when other people have come along and added bits of music they like to the genre or really just playing around with the musical genres they listen to you get permutations.
-
EricP I am adding you to aim
-
i think the reason why you love "techno" is because you don't know what techno is.

Yo Genghis, I got Daft Punk's album Discovery. It's actually pretty cool. Not the Daft Punk album I heard years ago (and loved) but really entertaining nonetheless. Not sure what electronic category i'd file it as but whatever
-
Get Alive 2007, Himu.
-
Actually. Yes, this is the Daft Punk album I listened to yeaaars ago. nvm
