Richard Curtis has started shooting his latest movie, “The Boat That Rocked,” for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures, with a cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost and Kenneth Branagh.

Pic is billed as the first “non-rom-com” by Curtis, who wrote “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Notting Hill” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary,” and made his directorial debut with “Love, Actually.”

Set in 1966, it’s an ensemble rock’n’roll comedy that takes place aboard a pirate radio ship anchored off the English coast. Hoffman, Ifans and Frost play rival DJs, with Nighy as their boss and Branagh as the government minister trying to shut them down.

Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing with Hilary Bevan Jones, who previously worked with Curtis on his telepic “The Girl in the Cafe.”

“The Boat That Rocked” also stars January Jones, Tom Sturridge, Jack Davenport, Ralph Brown and Chris O’Dowd. It shoots from March 3 to early June on location on a rusty trawler in the English Channel and at Shepperton Studios.

Yeah, it's interesting how in the early days of UK pirate radio, most of the music was actually broadcasted from nearby ships. Now they just hook an aerial up atop a tower block.

Yeah, but Hot Fuzz had good moments during its last half. It was much better than that shitty zombie movie he was in.

Hey guys its from the director of Bridget Jone's Diary.  I'm going after the operation.

I'm ashamed of you, Cohen.  Richard Curtis is the man behind the good seasons of Blackadder.  smh, Cohen, smh.

Love Actually is a highly revered film amongst the female species.  This will be the easiest sell for any date movie any man has ever had to make.

This is nothing but good news for fans of quality cinema.  And for fans of cinematic depictions of reality, as PSHoffman and Frost/Demi actually look like radio DJ's.

yep.  Bout 2-3 seconds of demi's alter ego walking/dancing down some sort of pathway.  It was already better then most of the 2009 nominated films.*

*that aint saying much, weak crop this year.
