Title: Moral of the story: stay the fuck away from Emachines
Post by: Phoenix Dark on March 05, 2008, 06:35:59 PM
As you all know I wind up with a fucking computer problem every other month, and that's when I'm lucky. I take good care of it, don't visit suspect sites, update it, etc...but something always comes up. And now it seems like the thing is fucked worse than ever. It starts normally, but after being up and running for 5 minutes or so it continually crashes. Whatever colors are on the screen will just mix together; I'll still be able to see the mouse cursor for a bit, but after awhile the colored screen disappears and all I get is a black screen. God fucking dammit. Last night there were no problems whatsoever and today it's as if someone dropped it or something. I know nothing happened to the computer in that short period of time. Whatever the issue is must be hardware related which of course pisses me off because I had a new motherboard installed two months ago, and I installed 1G of RAM then also.
I'm tired of dealing with fucking Comp USA. Yea yea I know. But the fact remains that I've got a year left on the warranty, so yeah. It literally takes them months to send anyone out. Fuck that. I'll have them look at this piece of SHIT one more time, then I'm going to buy a real computer.

lolololol I've had an eMachines for the last 4, going on 5 years and ti's worked flawlessly. Then again, I did replace the power supply because I knew the one it came with a shit (any prebuilt is going to have a shit power supply). Other than that, it's got the original motherboard, hard drive, memory, and cpu.
Moral of the story, learn how to take care of your shit.

Why don't you just build a pc next time? There's a lot knowledgeable posters on this site. Ask them for advice.

that sounds like your video card
try to reseat it or, in the bios, see if you can set it back to your onboard video processor (i'm just guessing you've upgraded it. if you haven't, then this doesn't apply to you)

Yea it hasn't been upgraded. The videocard is embedded in the motherboard

as sad is i am to say it you may be hosed
BUT you can possibly upgrade to a new video card which may fix it
POSSIBLY and MAY
but you should be able to find a cheap card just to test.

sounds like your onboard video is fucked. sadly, most emachines lack the ability to upgrade. :-\
my advice is to buy another emachine.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
seriously though, open it and see if you have any AGP/ PCIe slots.
