Quote
For those who didn't know about Gamebooks, they were novels which had a nice success during the 80's, and which were allowing the readers to choose their own path by jumping from one numbered section to another, in a fun and interactive way. They were introducing the concepts of inventory, enemies fights, random dice results, and other nice ideas which were the precursors of what we find today in role playing video games.

The philosophy behind the port of the LoneWofl to the DS is to let the console handle all the rules related to combats, stats and so on, so the player can be really immersed in the story and doesn't need to bother with the gameplay elements.

For now, only the first volume of the series, called "Flight From The Dark", is available. If people show enough interest in this first book, other volumes will be ported too."

Pretty nifty.  Only a matter of time before the book company or author has it yanked tho, I'd guess.

i b-'d my way through most math courses save linear algebra and calc 4 (aced both, yay me) on account of studying being for feggits. on the other hand, i remember all of it and find i'm still pretty b- at it, which has to be worth something.

I had a few of these books, but I used to cheat with the math. :ninja

I also had a few of the straight up Lone Wolf adventure novels (without the choose your own adventure aspect).  They were pretty good.

I remember looking at a bookseller's list and seeing Lone Wolf and Cub and wondering if it was a sequel where Lone Wolf had a kid. :lol

Sommerswerd!

According to Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_Wolf_(gamebooks)

"Although the series ceased publication between 1998 and 2007, a dedicated fan base established Project Aon in 1999 and subsequently converted many of the books to HTML format. Joe Dever gave his permission for free distribution of the books online via the internet. Subsequently, there has been a strong revival of interest in Lone Wolf."

So it might not even be illegal? ???

I just noticed that the font in the Lone Wolf DS thing seems to be...comic sans.

it's not Comic Sans!

So, I just beat Lone Wolf book 1 on my first game. lol.

I was pretty darn lucky with some of my rolls, and I also took CAMOUFLAGE which is the most useful skill in the entire universe. Combat is very heavily arrayed against you, so the more you can avoid combat, the better.

I killed some enemies, hid whenever possible, and with 2/20 HP remaining met the King who praised my young courage and told me to go get the Sommerswerd (found in Lone Wolf Book 2! not yet available on DS)

I did such a small sub-percentage of the game content, that I'm really curious what else could have awaited me.

It looks exactly like comic sans.  And I know comic sans when I see it.
