Title: Thinking about getting a PSP, but I've got a question or two...
Post by: Mr. Gundam on March 14, 2008, 05:29:00 PM
I was over at Fred Meyer earlier today, and I almost picked up a PSP with God of War and MGS Portable Ops (original version, not he add-on), but I didn't do it... yet.

There are cables that let you play the PSP on a TV, right? How does it look? Does it work properly on a widescreen setup?

I was wondering if that would be the case. Oh well, I really want Crisis Core, so I'll probably pick one up.

One other question, I can either get the $170 black PSP, or the $200 silver PSP in the Daxter bundle (which also comes with a 1GB memory stick). I have no interest in the Star Wars bundle. Which one should I get?

Yeah, the red one looks awful, honestly.

Crisis Core is the big reason why I've finally decided to get a PSP. MGS Portable Ops and all the beautiful Gundam games in Japan are just icing on top.

I didn't have time to pick one up yet, I'll go over to Best Buy tomorrow morning.

Nice to see a lot of PSP love, instead of the all the DS-fellato at GAF. I really love my PSP. Coincedentally, I hardly use my DS much. It's okay, but the games never seem to live up the hype :/

Would you recommend Battle Royale or Battle Chronicle?

I just ordered SD Gundam G Generation Portlable for $10, how is it?
Title: Re: Thinking about getting a PSP, but I've got a question or two...
Post by: Ichirou on March 15, 2008, 03:03:18 PM
Gah, I meant Battle Chronicle.  It basically has all the previous stages and mecha from the previous two games, plus new stuff from ZZ, Char's Counterattack, and Gundam Sentinel.  Get the Seed Vs. fighting game too.  It is awesome.

SD Gundam G Generation Portable is just like the PS2 game except the stages are 2D instead of 3D.  I believe they cut out some of the sidestory stuff and add some Seed stuff instead to make up for it.

Do you like strat. RPGs at all?  You should get Disgaea Portable, FFT, Wild Arms XF, Jeanne D'Arc (don't listen to the haters, they played the game for like an hour and went "turn limits? fuck that" and never touched it again), and Final Fantasy Tactics (which has not aged nearly as badly as the elitist Evilbore squad would have you believe).

Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology is also really great.  Get Dracula X Chronicles too, Me & My Katamari, Mega Man Powered Up, Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX, and the Sega Genesis Collection.

I'll keep my eye on some Battle Chronicle auctions on ebay, then.

I'm going to track down Brave Story today if I can.

Oh, I bought you Patapon, so don't go buying it for yourself.  :)

Sweet!  Thanks so much! :D

Definitely get Battle Chronicle - it's a great Gundam game.  The thing is, if you get Battle Chronicle, you don't need Royale or Tactics since Chronicle has all the mobile suits and stages from those games - all that changes is that they add more stuff and change the leveling system a bit (very simplistic in Tactics, ovelry complicated in Royale, refined in Chronicle).

Post by: Mr. Gundam on March 15, 2008, 03:21:13 PM
Yeah, that's why I leaning towards Chronicle, Game Set Watch reviewed it, and that was their comment on the series, too.

Just ordered Brave Story for $25, so I'll have Katamari and MGS Portable Ops to tide me over until my online orders and Crisis Core show up.

Pink Godzilla has Super Robot Wars MX, but it's just a straight port of the PS2 version which I have, so I'll pass.

I see it at every single Fred Meyer I've been to lately. I have no interest in it since I have the PS2 version, though. If they have it still, I'll snag it for you.

Also, I ordered Brave Story off half.com for $25. The Gamestop closest to me has a used copy for $30 if you're interested.

I've got the internet connection and PS3<->PSP connectivity setup, now I just need to get a memory stick tomorrow...

Anyone?
Title: Re: Thinking about getting a PSP, but I've got a question or two...
Post by: MCD on March 16, 2008, 04:29:39 PM
getting 8 gig means you can put all kinds of shit without the need to delete stuff.

2 gig would be enough for all psp games but you will have to delete stuff for space (for example, i can only have tekken 5 dr since it's probably the largest umd rip, 1.7gig, if i want to put other games, i have to delete it first)

4 gig is sweet but if you can afford 8gig, then go for it, it's just one time baby.

Memory stick loading and 333mhz speed = faster load times and smoother framerates.  It's worth hacking the system for that alone.

You don't have to download a single ISO.  You can easily set your PSP to ISO mode, copy the game ISO to your hard drive, and then move the now-ripped game onto your memory stick.  I think there are some apps that can shrink ISO sizes down, too.  Not sure which one is the best.

I'd never pirate PSP games but if I were to hack it, it would mostly be to put PSP games I already own onto the memory stick.  It'd save space (not having to carry UMDs around), battery (since the UMD drive wouldn't be in use), and time (since games would load faster).

And if TVC is gonna hack distant's PSP, he should definitely get an 8 gig stick.  Not like those sticks take up much space!

I wouldn't mind hacking it for roms, but not for pirating PSP games.

I already bought the 4 GB stick. I needed something so I could play the fucking games already (Portable Ops won't start unless you have a memory stick!), and I couldn't find an 8 GB stick anywhere.

I downloaded the Space Invaders Extreme and Umihara Kawase demos, which are awesome!
