You make that sound like a bad thing.  By the time Husker Du hit their stride, the last thing the world needed were more bands that aped the seminal SST acts.

well the problem with hardcore is that it built this niche for itself and then denied itself the ability to break OUT of that.

so all the good bands just stopped because they couldn't grow.

which, thankfully, let to more and more interesting works.
