Title: so am I overreacting? job scurrs
Post by: Mupepe on March 20, 2008, 12:09:56 PM
So yesterday I get the news that i need to create an administration book on my main responsibility (administrating Microsoft Project Enterprise 2007).  It's being passed off to a higher up manager.

My current manager and I were not specifically told what we would be moving to afterwards.

and then today, our global manager comes downstairs and tells our department that we're being merged with another department (a bigger department).  He also said they don't even know the logistics of how everything is going pan out as far as who is responsible for what.  But our departments will definitely overlap in a lot of ways, and being part of administration, this scurrs me.

I've never been through anything like this in a company and i'm not sure if i'm overreacting my being scared.  should I have my resume ready just in case?  Fuck.

Also, no one else seems to be very happy either.  the office is oddly silent and awkward.  yay?

:lol  They tend to do it at the beginning of the day on Fridays.  Friday is the beginning of each pay period and they'd rather not complicate things by having you on one day of a pay period.  So maybe I'll just start taking vacation days every Friday for as long as I can!

If they do fire you, the next day of business you should bring in a 130-piece mariachi band that you have paid to play all day.

:lol

They'd never get past security :(  I helped make sure of that when I first began here!

Something funny, since our global manager will no longer be our manager when the departments merge, he bailed out on all of our stuff (meetings and whatnot) for today and all of next week.

yeah, but then what about my rent? :(

Better do some research with Office UK and Office Space!
Office Space taught me I should slack off more to get ahead.  Or get hit by a truck.  Or ask my girlfriend (doesn't exist) which Lumberg she's been fucking.  Or write a virus.  Oh my god, I'm so conflicted.

Well Christ Muppy.

Let me know how shit pans out man.
I'll tell you how it'll probably pan out.  I'll probably get discouraged more than ever and spend more time surfing the net at work than ever before.

If I was down there, I could get them through security. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's getting past security.

How long have you been there? Since you wouldn't be quitting, you'd get some severance pay out of the deal. But, it's best to be prepared, Mupepe. I'd make sure your resume is in order, just in case you need to look for work.

My wife's company is in the middle of a huge overhaul, they pretty much eliminated her entire department, except for her. They merged the real estate department with operations, and are outsourcing a ton of jobs to vendors. She's getting a title upgrade (not sure if it's an actual promotion with a pay increase, though) and moving to the new department, while everyone else got laid off. Scary stuff.

Sure one person can, but an entire group of messicans?  Besides, you might make it on property, but good luck being in the building for more than 20 seconds mwahahahahaha

Start networking amongst your current friends.
Yeah.  I'm going to start talking to them.

To be honest, it might be a good thing.  There's a job to work offshore on a ship for ~5k a month.

I've been here for about 3 years now (in April).  Severance would be a week for every year I've worked here with benefits for a month.

and good god that is the exact same thing they're doing here.  even the same departments.  I can even see my managers were put off by the announcement which definitely put me off.  everything is being outsourced.  :-\  I'll be working on my resume tonight.

This is the only "real" job I've ever had.  I'm scared :(
