Just played a marathon 4 hours today. 2 am, bedtime.
Anyone try the expansions?
I forgot how great this game is, game of eternity.

I think it's arguably the best turn based strategy game ever made.
Get Beyond the Sword and skip Warlords for expansion stuff-BtS is where all the mod scene is happening now and has all of the core game Warlords content minus some of the custom scenarios.

Ahk, I will do that. It really reminds me of the AMAZING original, sans the awesome midi soundtrack.

Frag got me hooked on this last year. I blame him for missing weeks of my life. I haven''t even gotten Beyond the Sword yet. :P

Just woke up, havent eaten yet. Back to the match. I am doing really badly, I may start over with a larger world and now I have a better grasp of concepts.

So I got the sword expansion...
PLayed for a few more hours just now. Ended up getting jumped by the aztecs, i pissed them off too much. Oh well, I should learn to be more diplomatic, I gave them one of my cities to cool them off, then they tried to get more out of me and i told them to piss off.
I really tried to focus on growth and trade, and that did me in, luckliy i have a save that I can go back to and right my wrongs...
awesome fucking game. 8)

Always keep a decent standing army as a deterrent. If the AI sees that you are sporting obselete units in low amounts, they will bully you and then conquer you. Keeping a sound defense is not something you can ignore.
Note also that religious disagreements, especially with some leaders, can lead to war almost every time.

I had a nice standing army, but the aztecs were fucking stacked.. going to boot up the load now and change gears a bit...

I still kinda prefer Civ2 to Civ4 but that's just because I've been playing Civ2 for nearly 15 years now. I've put that game on just about every computer I've bought since it came out.

The civ series is so immersive. Time flies like crazy when I play civ.

It's really the perfect game, imo. Put me on a desert isle with a copy of Civ and something to play it on and I'll be happy, or as happy as I could possibly be with no women, alcohol, and Chinese take-out.....hmm...actually that sounds pretty shitty.
