good, bad, rent, what
-
Rent d00d, be real now
I'm gonna go pick up Viking though cause I got two games rotting away and losing trade value
-
Rental, possibly bad. Had a guy come in and cancel his reserve yesterday. Never a good sign with a B title like this.
-
I'm wearing his hat.
-
What hat?
-
Jimmy hat
-
just another average sci-fi UE3 shooter
-
it seems the glaive + GoW cover system simply doesn't work. and AI is bad. it looked painful to play in the xplay review.
-
I'll check it out 'cause the 1UP crew said that the graphics were pretty good. Supposedly, it looks like the best UE3 games but without any of the UE3 performance issues.

I'd give that to Frontlines
-
frontlines looks pretty sexay
-
Hmm sounds like it's not a good idea to just outright buy today. Oh well, maybe I'll get Raiden instead.
-
since dcharlie is getting the ps3 version it's must be bad port dont get it :-\
-
+ install the game on hdd so you can throw away the disc :bow
i've changed my mind im getting the ps3 version too :-*
-
i'm getting the PS3 version because of the smoothed textures.
I hate overly detailed textures, it ruins games for me.
you win
-
well, viking is pretty boring, definitely a rental, but you'd probably get bored of that even
maybe dark sector was the better choice after all... luls
-
mmm, fixed and limited vram for less noisy "classic" textures
:bow rsx budget gpu :bow2
-
Not the bears :'(

OK I played one hour, it does indeed seem very polished for an UE3 game... Digital Extremes and Epic are butt buddies and it shows
the whole game is nothing but tints of gray with a few colors here and there and lots of shadows, it's a pretty original look and it's very impressive at times, it helps a lot to mask the roughness of the assets
the action itself seems OK, but it has an unoriginal cover system like Killswitch, Gears and Uncharted have, though... this kind of gameplay is beginning to feel fuck boring
I didn't like the enemy AI, they seem to have weird animations too, they move strangely when they're shooting you and then move
also the aiming is pretty shitty, I tried to change the sensitivity of the analog sticks but it wasn't improved
-
meh, I don't really like the whole glaive throwing thing, the controls are a bit too complex to use in the middle of the action for my taste
the game has a few good ideas, though
-
are you guys sure it's UE3?
Dark Sector was based on Sector Engine, later changed to the Evolution Engine, both Digital Extremes' proprietary next-gen game engines. Official statements about this being just a name change or a major shift in their technology were not released to the public yet. Speculations about this engine being an evolution of the Pariah engine, a heavily modified Unreal Engine 2.5 were posted at UnrealWiki[2] but were not confirmed by Digital Extremes. Dark Sector's project lead, Steve Sinclair, stated that the engine was written from scratch.[3]

whatever the case, the end results does look a lot like UE3
it wouldn't be surprising for DE to have taken a lot of inspiration from it when rewriting it to suit their needs
-
so nobody got Dark Sector? so much for your hype, LOSERS
-
I'm getting it, maybe this afternoon
i am getting the PS3 version

:supergay
-
that's a compelling argument
-
eh, it's getting pretty decent, even if the cover/shoot gameplay is getting quite old as I said
the atmosphere is awesome, the lighting and shadows are sick and work extremely well as there is almost NO dialogue, just some ambient sounds and this
a good rental if you just want a lot of ruthless action and no story
-
This is a pretty good game. Graphics are nice, enemy AI is decent, controls are well done (for the most part). I don't know why every review was bitching about it being slim on story - so far the plot seems to be pieced throughout the game when it's necessary. It's not the most intricate story in the world to begin with. The glaive is kinda badass. I haven't tried MP yet, but it seems like a throwaway so they could slap the feature on the box.
It's waaaaaay better than Condemned 2 already.
-
alright that's it, i'm gonna go get it, i got 1000 on SHITKING last night
-
well, i decided against buying Dark Sector. I have already wasted money on Condemned 2 and Viking, i think i'll stick to rentals until the next MUST BUY comes out
and they only gave me $18 credit for it, MOTHERFUCK
i think i'm also done trading in games.
-
That's probably a good decision. It's good, but it's "rental good." I'll more than likely flip it on ebay as soon as I'm finished.
